2016 - 2017 USC Transfer

@pomeranian4rich Remember it is a private institution. As long as you have a good GPA, I really doubt they care if you complete your pre-major prep at their school. I mean USC will make more money and USC isn’t impacted like the UC/CSU system. That’s why for CSU’s and UC’s they force you to have everything complete because they are super impacted.

And someone on here said earlier they talked to a rep from USC saying as long as you “work towards your goal” you should be fine.

@topchoiceschool i had a “live” google chat with admission peoples and that is what they told me specifically. lol “we don’t care about your gpa, we care about what you do in college”

It was a chat with the admission people at viterbi, but I’m assuming their admission process is the same throughout other majors, not just within viterbi.

@pomeranian4rich Well from what I’ve heard from USC’s websites, counselors, and other students, is that GPA is weighed the most for transfer students. I mean they obviously care about GPA or they would admit just about anyone. Obviously coursework is important, but so are your grades.

I got a notification on you.sc saying USC has not received my full college transcripts but the document management system on you.sc says my transcripts have been received. I emailed them about it but does anyone know what this means?

@AtBestBuffalo So, another question is, lets say I get lucky to get in. When I apply for housing, is there anyone I can dorm with freshmen? It’s just my preference

@DanHuynhCA It’s possible. My freshman year suite had a junior and it was the second time he was living in dorms usually reserved for freshman. It probably comes out to winning a lottery, though.

You could always try to request a roommate that’s a freshmen or sophomore. As a transfer spring admit, they also had freshmen spring admits. Their housing website was pairing me up with a couple of freshmen based on how I answered their little questionnaire as well as other transfers my age and even some that were substantially older. I didn’t want to randomly request anybody though :stuck_out_tongue: I do agree that it probably comes out to some kind of luck/chance if you want to dorm with freshmen as they have freshmen only-housing that you wouldn’t necessarily considered for. There’s always off-campus too and seeing if you can meet freshmen and room up with them.

@zettasyntax Just curious, when did you receive an acceptance from USC?

I’m only a freshman (trying to transfer in for sophomore year) and I don’t have some of the prerequisite classes for the business major. I was wondering if they will still accept me. I’ve submitted my application and all of that but I’m worried I will be out of the running because I was not able to take some courses that are required. Thanks!

@AEM2015 the usual prerequisite would be business calculus(if your school has it) or calculus 2,which is the highest math they want. Having taken Accounting(financial and managerial) and economic(Marco and Mirco) will also boost your acceptance, assuming your gpa is roughly 3.5+ I’ve heard that some accepted students completed most of it.

Do transfer students use the same common app? It seems entirely geared towards high school applicants so I’m just a little confused on that process. (Fall 2015 admitted student, but couldn’t afford to go. Getting my finances together and hoping to enter Fall 2017, just to introduce myself.)

^^ If someone could give me some insight that would be beautiful

Specifically the high school counselor portion

If anyone received the same message that I wrote in my last post, USC got back to me and said they want my spring grades. This doesn’t seem like a traditional spring grade request but I’ll take it.

Hi guys,
I am trying to transfer into the Sol price school of public policy.
Here are my stats: 3.64 GPA
English 1B(highest transferrable english) : A
Math 8 (College Algebra): B
Introduction to Sociology: A
California Geography: A

In progress:
Psychology of Women
Intro to Humanities
Italian
World Religions
World history

I had 2 outstanding letters from professors and had a plethora of activities which include: VP of a club, secretary of a club, interning for a PAC, Marine Corps platoon leaders class (like an ROTC) . I did have a mistype on one of my essays however, I can understand what I said or was trying to say, how much do you think it will affect my chances?

@chjd22 Are you on a quarter or semester system?

@topchoiceschool I got my acceptance letter on June 6th of last year, which I believe was at least a few days after the deadline they had set to notify every student if of a decision or request for spring grades, so that sucked hah :stuck_out_tongue:

@chjd22 The first time I applied to USC, I received the weirdest request for spring grades ever - it wasn’t even in my portal until I called - I just had received an email notification. When I did call, the person I spoke with said that she had never seen an SGR like this before; it was basically just asking for my spring grade in 1 course; my counselor seemed quite interested in that one pending grade.

@topchoiceschool I’m on the semester system.

@zettasyntax Yeah that is weird. Was the course specific to your major? It’s just weird that you.sc says my spring grades are “missing” rather than requested. Also, on the forum last year, did you see many people with SGRs send their spring grades with 3.7-4.0 and get denied?

@chjd22 My first major choice was Undecided/Dornsife and my second was a major that I just put for fun because I assumed I would get in as undecided (I put Computer Science/Games). The class was a simple stats class, but I had not completed any prior courses in math, so I can only assume that’s why my counselor needed to see the grade.

I don’t usually see many posts about rejections (hard to talk about, I guess), but a lot of people with SGR’s did wind up getting accepted  Even in the year before (2014), I remember a user got a C grade in a very important class for their major and they were still fine. I wound up with a B in the stats course and I was rejected, so my guess is that the counselor thought I should have gotten an A in this “easier” math course as I received A’s in all my other classes for that spring semester.
