2016 - 2017 USC Transfer

@chjd22 I got the same message! The weird think is that I am not taking any classes this semester, which I explained in my app. I will already be a junior if I start at USC in the fall, so I didn’t want to take additional classes when I would have to do two years at USC anyway. I’m working for the semester to save some money instead.

Hi guys!

It’s logical for most sophomore transfers to get SGR’s right?

We only have a high school transcript (if they put any weight in it after 30 units) and a single semester’s worth of higher education.

Have y’all heard anything about sophomore transfers getting straight up acceptances?

It would be so great if we all just got accepted on June 1st, instead of getting SGR’s and waiting for another 1-2 months for a decision. :(((((

If you guys have any ideas, LMK!

@js119999 my friend last year applied as a math major with a 3.6gpa and she got it. she had about over 30 units. highest math she took was calc 3 for her major.

@js119999 Yeah, most sophomore transfers get it because of the limited coursework you have to offer. You might get lucky and not need one! Could also depend on your major as well.

I saw on USC’s Instagram that they are mailing out letters right now. Is that only for freshmen or us as well?

@bigstom It’s only for incoming freshmen. Ours will be sent out periodically starting around the last days of April, based on last year’s transfer thread.

I’m curious to see if students get boxes in the mail this year, hah :stuck_out_tongue: Some kid at school said they’re changing it up, but I wonder if he was just lying.

@zettasyntax I’m currently trying to apply to CS with a 3.78 gpa having a B in Calc 2 and my Physics Class. SO i’ve done what’s recommended, do you think I have a shot? I’m just scared because I heard some rejections with high spa’s, maybe bc they didn’t do the recommended courses perhaps…

@itslife123 I’m also concerned about the same thing. I got a 4.0 last semester and am applying as a political science major. I’m just hoping that’s enough, it seems who they accept is not as straightforward as I thought they would be.

@zettasyntax They’re Small white boxes this year! there are pictures of them on the USC Admission Instagram

@itslife123 If you have calc and some physics done, I think you have a very decent chance. I know a lot of times people will be rejected from CS or even business without having calc completed as it is very important. These math/science classes can be very tough and I think USC knows that and it’s not like you received a C- grade (if your school uses +/-). Your GPA is even slightly above the average for overall admitted students, so I like I said, your chances are pretty good if you have the prep

@KELLYYYY Just checked it out! They seem pretty cool. I can’t wait to browse the USC hashtag on Twitter and see if people post pictures of what’s inside :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey guys I’m applying as an English major and I have a 3.6 GPA. I was wondering if it is competitive to get into USC as an English major and if my GPA is high enough for acceptance. I have pretty much all A’s with my lowest grade being in math, but since my major is English I don’t think they’ll mind. Thanks to anyone who replies!

hey could anyone tell me any info about merit scholarships for us transfers? I know that freshman have the presidential thing, but is there such a thing for transfers? and who qualifies for it?

I asked my counselor but all he said was that we’ll find out when we get our admission…

@goldenlily The average GPA does still seem to be 3.7 and you aren’t too far from that  I even recall some poster saying they got into Marshall with like a 2.8GPA two years ago, so USC does seem to take everything into consideration if that can happen :stuck_out_tongue: That’s not really a problem for you that since you have a good GPA. Do many of your English classes transfer over to USC? I don’t see the math as being a big deal either so long as you completed at least the minimum that they ask for. So yeah, I think you’re fairly competitive and if you have strong recommendations, EC’s, or even a fresh essay that grabs their attention, that can only make things better :stuck_out_tongue:

@zettasyntax All of the English classes that I took transfer to USC  And I also took every GE they require, except one Biology class. Do you think it is fairly competitive to get into USC as an English major in general? Thanks for helping!

@goldenlily You’re already in a far better position than I was. I think I was missing a pretty whopping 3 GEs when I transferred to USC this spring, but one of the GEs is going to be satisfied by my major, but I still have 2 that I need to worry about. I think there’s some pretty stiff competition with all majors, but I’d definitely have to say something in the arts school is probably the hardest to get into. I even know posters here that did not get admitted into the SCA school, but were ultimately accepted into Dornsife as undecided. Overall, it just seems really hard for somebody to directly get admitted into SCA. Anyway, if you have a couple English classes that transfer as well as nearly all of your GEs done, you’re in a pretty good place  I know two English majors in one of my classes and they said they’re having fun with the classes they’ve taken so far :stuck_out_tongue:

Skimming through the USC Class of 2020 thread makes me nervous for some reason lol.

when is the earliest time known where transfer students start getting SGR’s/ acceptances?

@anxiousmac I think the earliest we get notified of admission is late April.

I remember somebody from last year stated that they got into Keck under Global Health or something on April 10th, but that must have been a rather rare case because yeah, I don’t remember any other acceptances or SGR’s going out until after April 20 or so like topchoiceschool mentioned.
