@iamthetopgun What extra information did you get asked for?
@happyhazelnut
At Annenberg, the Communication majors are pretty segregated from the Public Relations and Journalism majors. I think Public Relations and Journalism majors take overlapping classes. From the perspective of communication major, it always seems like there’s something interesting happening at the journalism major every week. There’s always some amazing guest speaker at the campus at least once a week or so. The director of journalism program is Willow Bay (journalist and wife of Disney’s CEO) and she has lots of pull with a lot of people. Journalism classes always seem interesting, and they seem well prepared for the changing environment of journalism.
@iamthetopgun How did they ask you for more information? It wasn’t entirely clear how they asked me for my spring grades.
@dhailey @chjd22 It wasn’t exactly a SRG. Two years ago when I decided to start studying at a CC, I was enrolled into 2 different CCs (one I am currently in right now and another a few hours away) and I couldn’t decided on which one I wanted to go to at the time so I enrolled into both CCs, to register for classes before all the spots were taken. Long story short, because I was enrolled into this other CC as well it is in my academic history (or thats what I’ve been told by the USC advisors) and I need to prove that I didn’t take any classes there via a blank transcript from that CC.
@Joe211 so would you say that pr/journalism majors are more competitive to transfer into as opposed to just communications?
you said there was segragation? is it because pr/journalism get more opportunities?
Very interesting to hear yalls stories! I applied to usc this year as a senior in high school and got denied unfortunately. I am currently deciding between sdsu and ou right now and cant make up my mind. I am wanting to major as a computer engineer and I plan on transferring to usc after my freshman year. Which school would yall say I have a better chance of transferring from and getting into usc?
@Parkison Here’s the transfer statistics from USC’s website:
http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/transfer/prospective/transferprofile.html
Our Transfer Students Come From
California Community Colleges … 58%
Colleges Outside California … 24%
California State University/University of California … 11%
California Private Universities and Colleges … 7%
International Colleges and Universities… 1%
It seems like OU is the better choice?
@Parkison If you like both schools enough and are willing to take the risk of staying 4 years and graduating from there (if you can’t transfer to USC), I’d say go for the school that fits you the most/doesn’t make you go bankrupt. If you can’t stand the thought of spending 4 years/graduating from either school, just go to a CC and try to transfer to USC.
You’ll have a higher chance of maintaining a higher GPA at a CC, which maximizes your USC transfer chances while saving money (assuming you live outside of CA/OK, you’ll need that extra money for USC’s rising costs lol). Computer engineering is no joke at any school, I’d advise contacting a USC admission counselor at the end of April and explaining your situation to them. Btw this is just anecdotal advice, I’m still waiting on USC transfer decisions at the moment.
Hey guys, what’s your opinion on sending an update letting telling them about A new position earned in an extra curricular activity or good grades in a class?
I asked admissions and they said to put it in a letter and add it to my file but that was just about the position I got. Is it too much to include a recent test grade I was super proud of?
@thepinksun Congrats on the new position and strong academic standing! I think it might be a little too much to include a recent test grade. If you are on a quarter system, USC posted a reminder on social media to send in winter quarter grades.
@iamthetopgun How were you notified that they request more information from you?
I’m anxiously awaiting for the first person to comment “Accepted!”
@badmintongirl They emailed me.
It seems like Marshall, Viterbi, and Annenberg applicants don’t hear back until end of May from last year’s thread. Is this true or it really depends on who the USC territory manager is?
@tinarose thanks!
Anyone send in their winter quarter grades? That’s if you attend a quarter system school.
@tinarose I think I read that someone got into Marshall on the last day of April or early May last year, but I could be wrong.
when do people in dornslife hear back?
@ssm24k according to last year’s thread, the earliest Dornsife applicants heard back was late April
@topchoiceschool The USC admissions counselors said all the students on the quarter systems should send in the winter grades as soon they become available during the USC Transfer Day. They posted on social media a reminder to submit winter quarter recently too. From last year’s tread, if you don’t submit your winter grades, USC sends out a request (WGR) around end of April.
