2016 and beyond wedding moms and dads (Part 2)

Let’s try this:

Probably time to start a new separate thread about MOB and MOG dresses?

^^That’s the link to the existing thread, but maybe it is time for part N.

That didn’t seem to be the link I saw originally that popped up so thanks for posting this one. That was a long thread and it was helpful to me as a 2022 MOG. Maybe a part two could actually be helpful to add on to the original thread for 2023+ people?

Sorry! I had to edit the post because a wrong link posted for some reason.

My daughter in law purchased a full length tulle and chiffon skirt, and then had a dressmaker create a bodice and join the two. The total cost was about $1200, including the lace they went and shopped for at their metropolitan fabric district. She looked gorgeous!

My SiL bought her gown secondhand for $100 , from Facebook marketplace. Satin one-shoulder was very pretty!

Has fashion changed that much to need a yearly (2022 to 2023)MOB/MOG dress thread??

Sending all the love to those brides who decide to choose an alternative wedding dress option including vintage, off the rack, white-but-not-only wedding classified, etc. Dresses can be gorgeous without an enormous dress bill!!!

The old thread is titled specifically 2021-22 and is also very long already(782 posts). Just thought it might be nice for someone to start a part 2 but probably not essential.

I for one would appreciate a part 3 (there was a part 2 before the latest CC upgrade).

Oh, @oldmom4896 I didn’t know there was a part 2 already. I just saw the Mom of Bride or Groom Dress Suggestions 2021-2022 , the thread that @abasket and @BunsenBurner linked (with last of 782 posts from November 22). Do you have the link for Part 2? Any mom currently looking for a dress could potentially start a new thread if that would be helpful .

I don’t know, maybe I am wrong about part 2. (This thread is a Part 2!) When I am done working (from home) today, maybe I will start a new thread.

Back to work!

@oldmom4896 I would definitely be interested in a new thread as I will need a MOB dress for D1’s wedding next year (5/04/24). I already told D1 that if her fiance’s mom finds a dress she likes she should get it and not wait for me to find one. I love her MIL to be and I don’t need to pick my dress first.

Anyone can start a thread!

A thread on MOB threads!

I am very fond of my daughter’s future mother-in-law as well. Daughter told me that FMIL has been looking. As with you, I have absolutely no problem with her buying a dress first. If you’d like to start a thread, please do so! I am working and wheezing and won’t get to it until much later.

My D is making her own wedding dress. This is causing me some anxiety since the wedding is in September and the dress isn’t actually started yet, but she is firm about wanting to do it. She is a completely self taught seamstress and has made herself lots of clothes over the last few years. She also created a dress form especially for the wedding dress. She did a sort of trial run where she made herself a cocktail dress that was a sleeveless lace bodice sheath dress. I’m nervous that the wedding dress isn’t actually started yet! She’s in her 2nd year of a PhD program and finally feels like she has a breather because she’s mostly finished with her 2nd year paper and several presentations. She’s going to Manhattan over spring break to buy the fabric.

I made my own. It was eyelet material - no lace, so easier sewing. But it did have a train, veil, etc. From memory, the material alone cost $80-100, and that was back in the dark ages!

Big kid made her own. Took her a month with a couple of all-nighters I believe. Just like a PhD thesis writing…
