Okay, two questions:
1. Around what time will they be releasing EA decisions?
2. How will we be notified about our decision? By email, letter in the mail, or what?

You’ll find out in late January, or at least that’s what the blog says.
I believe they let you know of your decision status through your MyUNC account. You should have gotten an email with the information.
Best of luck!

I’m sure they’ll give a date when it gets closer to the day, but I’m guessing it’s going to be the last Friday in January, so the 27th. They’ll do it right before 5 so they can be closed for the weekend by the time angry students and parents start calling. That’s how they did it last year, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the same this year. I did hear a few years ago that they posted it early, but I doubt they will this year with more applications because of common app.

Thanks guys! Good luck to you if you’ve applied early as well

“We’re working hard to review the applications of our Early Action candidates. We ended up receiving just under 13,000 applications for Early Action, which is slightly less than the 14,000 that we received last year for our first deadline. We think the decrease is mostly due to the fact that our deadline was two weeks earlier this year. We won’t know until after our final application deadline on January 5 how many applications we’ll get in all. In the meantime, we’re continuing to read and re-read your applications carefully and thoroughly. We’re on schedule to release EA decisions as planned by the end of January.”

Compared to other schools, it’s kind of odd - the deadline was so early, but the notification date is so late.

Agreed. I’m not quite sure why. There are a ton of applicants of course, but other schools still probably do it comparatively faster. And even with the time they’re completely swamped - my experience with admissions last year wasn’t too positive. Lots of unanswered emails and unhelpful phone calls trying to get them my documents that I had submitted 3 times and they kept losing…
