Early Decision Applications Up Again : Northwestern University Newscenter

Ughhh, very depressing for those of us with ED kids…

Lol, that’s not how percentage increase works. The quoted administrator did the math wrong.

x increased by 26% = x*1.26. Then there was a gain of 15.2%, so 1.26x * 1.152 = 1.45152, or a 45.15% increase over two years.

He was close enough haha. >40% increase, but 45% sounds even better. Thanks for double-checking.

Last year, Northwestern received 31,000 and accepted 18% to yield a class of 2,025.

Class of 2015
Target class size: 2025
ED 2,127; accepted 723
RD 29,000; accepted 4853
Total 31,127; accepted 5576 = 18% overall acceptance rate
2128 enrolled=38% yield

Class of 2016
Target class size: 2025
ED 2,450; accepted 804
RD (projected, let’s say numbers stay the same) 29,000 applicants; acceptances (projection based on 38% yield): 4520
Total (projected): 31,450; acceptances (projected): 5324= 17% overall acceptance rate

If NU experiences a 5% increase in overall apps this year from 31,000 to 32,550, the acceptance rate will drop to 16%. With a 15% overall increase, the acceptance rate will dip below 15%.

Interesting projections, wildcatalum!

Does anyone know why Collegeboard is STILL reporting a 23% overall acceptance rate for NU, even though it’s outdated and consequently very wrong?
