Hi all, the deadline for the UCLA Transfer Alumni Scholarship was yesterday May 8, 2016. I didn’t see a post dedicated to this topic so I thought I’d post this for us to share results! Good luck to all those that applied!
Thanks for starting this, I called after I submitted mine a while ago and they said decisions should be posted around the last week of May! May the odds be ever in our favor!
Did anyone else just get an email about the Alumni Scholarship?
@boyofrito Nope.
Bummer guess I didn’t win.
What are your stats if you don’t mind me asking?
Has anyone heard back?
@Skokos two people have.
The winners have been decided. Too bad for us.
@selimpride only two people? I mean we still have a chance though. They continue to release more until August. On bruin day the lady said they give out a lot.
@Skokos Yeah alot but you have to realize that not everyone goes on this site. Only a few people will be picked, those who don’t SIR to UCLA there award will go to someone else.
In other words, don’t count on it and just move on. Sorry bro but we didn’t get it.
If you have gmail, check your Promotions folder. Mine was not sent to the primary inbox for some reason. Overall, I feel my application was standard. I re-listed my extracurriculars and wrote new essays from scratch. I was not awarded the Regents Scholarship, so maybe I had “more” need for the Transfer Alumni.
@kamiture
Doubt that was the reason. I think merit was probably a bigger factor than need.
What are your stats if might ask?
My UC GPA is about 3.80 or 3.81 without the articulated class. My CC GPA is 3.83 putting me in the 25th percentile range for various math majors.
The gist of it: Dean’s Honors, Scholarships x 6 from CC, Grace Hopper Scholar, NASA Aerospace Scholar, Math Tutor for 3 programs on campus, Grader for my teacher(various math classes), Active in clubs(3~, mainly Comp Sci and Math), working part-time or full times( about 3 part-time jobs at max), tragedies (too many during CC), completed required for admissions classes, finished about 85% of recommended prior to enrollment, IGETC certified,helped to establish a female CS initiative event.
@kamiture
Wow your situation is almost similar to mine. I think I just have bad luck or something since I can’t win any scholarship.
Well congratulations anyway.
Thanks. That’s the hard part about these scholarships. I believe we are all around the same merit so it’s our essays and letters of recommendation that edge us out. Looking at last year’s list, I didn’t realize how few transfer alumni awards are actually given out. Here’s hoping there’s more aid options once the dust settles from everyone SIR or waitlist status.
@kamiture
It isn’t happening.
One of the former members on the committee told me that no one after June gets anything.
The few award money not taken by students who transfer elsewhere will be recycled for next year’s cycle.
@selimpride That sucks. There goes that idea then.
