2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

@scriavel My professor doesn’t want me to read the letter and I waived my rights to see it, so I don’t have a copy.

@AGoodFloridian Alright, I’ll give them a call.

Thanks to you both for your help!

Hi Guys,

What is the housing situation for most of you folks that are planning to attend USC??

@Jesus0512 Trying to get on-campus housing if possible

@bettycrocker03 I’m pretty sure it would be to their undergraduate admissions.

@kamtea I heard it might be hard. What school are you coming from or state?

We should form a bond for those transfer students so we have a support system at USC.

@Jesus0512 Coming from an university in California, so I’m in-state. What about you?
I heard that they’re opening a new on-campus dorm for USC students so there will be more room for transfers. When I spoke to my counselor in June since I’m a TTP applicant, she said that the new dorms will probably help with the on-campus housing for transfers.
But yea…I’m still skeptical that I’ll be able to get a place on-campus as a transfer since we can only apply for housing after our acceptances.

@Jesus0512 USC has a lot of transfer socials/events from what I’ve heard?
Does anyone know if transfers have a hard time finding a community/tight friend group at USC?

@kamtea @Jesus0512 the new community called “The Village” will be ready for Fall 2017, and it houses 2500 students. Obviously the only students getting into The Village are current students, but that implementation of that community should open 2500 spots elsewhere on campus, and since less than 2500 transfers are accepted/attend each year, that should mean that most transfers who want on campus housing will be able to get on campus housing. I’m looking pretty deep into this because I go to a community college in PA, so off campus housing would be pretty tricky for me to set up.

@kamtea USC is a very transfer-friendly school, so I wouldn’t worry too much about becoming a part of the community.

@Jesus0512 I am looking into renting a room near the campus or my own studio. For the prices that you pay for student housing, you can have your own studio. If push comes to shove I am more than willing to live in the “bad” areas. I know that I am going to have my hands full with school/clubs. Any extra time will be dedicated to my girlfriend who lives two hours away, attending some of the most prestigious jiu-jitsu schools in the world! and trying to be as socially active as I can on campus and in LA. Essentially, I will not need the cool “extras” offered by student housing.

As far as transfers networking, if/when we are accepted, I would not mind having a “college confidential” transfer gathering in LA.

@bugajskj You have a point. That is so cool btw.

I have a house about 20 minutes away from campus. Nice area no theft or burglaries. I have a couple of friends that attend USC already could help out.

If accepted to USC, I would be down to meet up with other successful transfer admits . It would be awesome to be able to meet you guys in person

@Jesus0512 So you are currently living in this house? Are you trying to rent out rooms?

So has anyone planned out their 4 semesters at USC? I planned mine out but it’s pretty much a crammed schedule till senior year. Like hitting the 18 credit maximum every semester. Does USC allow above 18 credits free of charge for transfer students who need to complete major requirements?

@stahboy I don’t have anything planned out yet because I’ll only be a sophomore and I need to get accepted first, but I’d be surprised if they didn’t make you pay for extra classes. Must be tough in terms of scheduling to graduate on time with a major not offered at your current school, and I would think that if you’re accepted, USC would try to work with you so that you can graduate on time.

@umaasa Okay, cool. Thank you!

@stahboy I’m not entirely sure where I read this, but I believe if you perform exceptionally well (= have two semesters of 3.75+ in terms of GPA), you can take extra classes/be over the 18 units (up to 21) and USC will pay for them. After my disastrous summer semester, I didn’t have anywhere near that. Anyway, I took 20 units this past fall semester and they made me pay for those units. I’d have to look it up, but I believe I paid ~2K more than I paid for the spring. Depending on the major, it’s a bit hard to plan semesters as well. If you’re in linguistics for instance, a lot of classes are only offered in the spring or fall semester, so if it’s full or offered at the same exact time as other class (everything seems to be 2:00-3:20 for ling classes), you’d have to wait until the next time it’s offered and yeah, there’s my little rant haha.

Hey, I’m new to this thread and I’m sure this gets asked a lot, but does anyone know when the decisions start to be released? I applied Marshall for my first choice and Dornsife for my second choice major. My semester is over at the end of April and my parents and I are trying to figure out whether we need to store my stuff at my current school or bring it all back home in case I end up transferring.

Does anyone know how to maneuver the YouSC transfer portal? When I select “yousc application status check,” I’m brought to with tabs like “respond to communications,” “join our mailing list,” and sign up for a campus tour." Nothing is personalized or specific to my app. I want to make sure they received everything but I’m having a hard time. Ugh
