2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

@pomeranian4rich Exactly! Except I have taken 1 Lab-based science (General Chem) but still nowhere near competitive :stuck_out_tongue:

@pomeranian4rich Agreed all I just was trying emphasize is getting in is awesome, but the main point i was trying t to make was that Viterbi students who get in directly are best prepared because they know full well of the rigor and the transition is a lot smoother. He did say he planned on taking those classes in the near future if he doesn’t get in so that’s great. But yea everyone has different circumstances so I completely understand.

Has anyone been to a transfer day?

Hey lads, I’m looking for some advice here for a potential sophomore transfer. I currently received my Fall Semester grades which came out to be a 3.4. Cumulative Gpa for Summer and Fall is a 3.3. Total units taken for both Summer and Fall would be 16; I’m going to be taking 25 units in the Spring to complete Viterbi’s pre-requisites. I just wanted to seek some insight to improve my chances. Thanks.

Excuse my ambiguity for my last post. These are the classes I took/going to take

Summer: (3 units)
Trig: B

Fall: (16 units)
Pre-cal: B
Bio 1:B
Bio 1L: A
Wr 1: A

Spring: (25 units)
Math 3A: IP
Math 3B: IP
Intro to Env Science: IP
Chem 1A: IP
Wr 2: IP
Hist 20: IP

One letter of Recommendation from Writing Professor and currently waiting to submit my application until he looks over my essay. Thanks.

@ivctransferusc from my honest review I’ll have to say you have a slim chance. You might get a spring grade request or a flat out rejection. Viterbi is no doubt very competitive and most applicants would have more maths and sciences completed. Because you’re a sophomore applicant they’ll likely focus on the minimum requirements such as: calculus 1 and 2, two semeters of lab-based science and number of GE’s you’ve completed. If you are a junior applicants they expect all or most GE’s completed and all or most major prerequisites completed. idk if you need intro to evn science, but your bio and chem classes will fulfill two GE science classes. I suggest taking another GE classes and substituting it for intro to Env science. hope this helps

Just wanted to see if I have a competitive resume.
Also if anyone’s resume was similar to mine and was admitted I would like to hear about your process.
Thank you and good luck to everyone.

@Orlando1997 You will have no problem getting in. Actually your chances are pretty high. They might actually sent you a sgr since you’re taking your last calculus class in spring, but I doubt they will because you have a high gpa. Econ is generally an easy major to get in unlike business.

What are the chances of not getting an SGR as a sophomore? Or should I say is it even possible lol

@penntousc I think most sophomore will get a SGR lol. I know one of my friend who was straight-out rejected and not given a sgr. it sucks lol. But I think if you’re taking major prerequisites in the spring they might want to see how well you do before making their decision.

@pomeranian4rich well if I make business my first choice, the only one I’d be taking is English comp 2, which satisfies WRIT 340… however, I aced the first part, English comp 1… might work to my advantage if I just leave business as my #1

@penntousc don’t you mean writ130? lol You need to satisfy that requirement to be considered for admission. or writ150? I think they changed it

@penntousc writ340 is a upper level division writing course which you’re suppose to take at usc

@pomeranian4rich I meant 150

@pomeranian4rich whichever one is the one required for admission to marshall

Does anyone know how competitive it is to get in as a psych major? My major G.P.A is around 3.9. I have all the major requirements done all I need is to take stats but I already took the psychology version of Stats.

@ivctransferusc how is it possible that you are taking 3A and 3B at the same time?

@Twenmi at most community colleges they have a program where you can take the first sequence of a math course in the first 8 weeks and the next sequence in the next 8 weeks. My school has that program which is called math path. It’s really fast paced so keeping up with the course will be challenging.

@amartinez571 psych isnt a competitive major. Your gpa is very competitive and you have a chance of getting in. You might get a sgr because you’re missing stats (idk if that’s your major prereq or GE). If it is a GE then most likely they won’t send you a sgr.

@pomeranian4rich Wow that’s amazing. I wish my school did that…That would have saved me a lot of time…
