@pomeranian4rich Thank You. I think it’s worth a shot applying to USC.
@ejsutton2006 You definitely have a good chance with that gpa, but make sure you keep that level of performance because U will 99% get a Spring Grade request. Best of luck!
@pomeranian4rich maybe it’s possible it was a 4.0 with a lot of W’s?
@Twenmi I guess anything is possible haha that applicant probably didnt mention the bad stuff
What is an adequate amount of gen ed done?
I was going to take Art in the winter but I kind of just want to focus on precal in the winter.
So far I have taken
GE-A: Complete in the spring?
GE- B: 2 courses/Complete
GE-C: 1 Course in the spring
GE-E: Done
GE-F: In progress
GE-G: None
GE-H: Complete
Is that good enough? I could possibly take poli sci in the spring to complete C and G but Idk if i’m going to do that
@Twenmi i think that’s an adequate amount. is precal your major prerequisite? if not then take the art class in the winter.
@pomeranian4rich Well I’m a Comp Sci major (I’m hoping to get into USC as undeclared since they require Calc 2 for CS majors) so precal is pretty important for me haha
@Twenmi okay you’re a comp sci major. I’m sure they’ll expect you to have calc 1 and 2 completed and two semesters of a science-based lab completed to be considered competitive from their perspective. Your chance might be very slim if you were to apply to viterbi. I suggest you to take precalc and the art class in the winter if you are able to handle that work load. (I’m taking three classes in winter) then you’ll be able to take calc 1 in the spring and have most GE completed at the end of your freshman year. If they were to accept you it would be under undeclared/dornsife because viterbi is no doubt very very competitive. Because you can’t take calc 1,2,3 linear algebra and two-semester science-based lab all in your freshman, it’s a safe bet to finish their GE requirements and be accepted as an undeclared major. I hope this helps
@pomeranian4rich yeah that’s why I’m intending on doing. But I can apply for viterbi once I’m at USC correct? And where on the application do I mark undeclared? Or do they automatically consider me for an undeclared spot? And am I competitive for an undeclared spot?
4.0 GPA with Chem 1A, and all those pre reqs done?
@Twenmi I’m not sure but I heard from last year thread that they will consider everyone for undeclared even if you don’t mark it. I think completing all GE requirements will make you competitive than other applicants who are just taking random classes. And yes, you can apply for viterbi once at usc. I heard it’s very easy to do so given you have completed the classes they want.
Hello Viterbi Applicant here, while I know that maybe you think that going Undeclared is the easier route (which it is) you’re only really hurting yourself by trying to avoid the viterbi route. You’re not applying because of Viterbi’s Calc 2 Requirement while, There are applicants who apply with Linear Algebra, Diff Eqn, Multi Variable and Physics, and you’re scared of a Calc 2 requirement. Ya maybe you’ll get in the major, but why take all the math there when you can complete em. You’re gonna be in for a rough road. Good luck. I’m just giving my honest opinion here.
@itslife123 The main reason why I want to apply to USC is because I can apply as a Freshman/sophomore. If I stay at CC another year and complete all the math courses I will be applying to UCB and UCLA.
Edit: So it’s not that I’m scared of taking Calc 2 at my CC, it is more of a timing thing.
I wanted to repost the details of my app and where I stand since my grades are finalized and my schedule is finalized for the spring…
-Applying for CSBA (Computer Science and Business Administration)
-4.0 GPA
-16 credits completed, 17 in the spring
Major PreReqs Completed by spring:
-Calc 1, 2
-Calc Based Physics
-Writing Requirement (340)
University Requirements completed by spring:
-Math, Writing, Diversity
GE’s completed by spring:
-GE-B (2/2)
-GE-C (1/2)
-GE-D
-GE-E
-GE-F
-GE-H
Need to complete @ USC:
-2 credit engineering class
-GE-A
-GE-C (1/2)
-GE-G
Since I recently switched majors, if any of you are CSBA, know anything about the program, or would just like to give me your opinion, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!
@itslife123 @Twenmi I wouldn’t say he’s avoiding viterbi route. His chance for being admitted to viterbi is slim to none because he hasn’t taken any calculus courses yet or any lab-based science (I’m guessing). So his best shot is being admitted to dornsife given he’s a sophomore applicant and completed lots of GE. And yes completing math requirements there will be challenging and difficult than at a cc. Viterbi will reject him because he’s nowhere near their minimum requirements to be competitive but it’s still worth a shot to apply.
@penntousc If you were applying to business admin. I would say you’ll get in for sure because of your gpa and GE. I have the same stats as you last year except I’ve completed only 2 GE by the end of spring lol.
@pomeranian4rich I might still be going that route, it’s just unfortunate that the articulation agreement between my school and USC is so small that I’m basically forced to take calc 2. So, I figured why not take physics and just apply for CSBA (since I’m interested in computer science), but that’s also a much more difficult route to take.
@penntousc I def. think csba is a much harder route than straight business. I think it’s the less sought out major for transfers? I haven’t seen many csba transfers. it’s mostly business transfers.
@pomeranian4rich yeah I don’t think I’ve seen anyone else transfer for it, I’ve got a geology class that I could take instead of physics, but there’s nothing I could take that would replace calc 2, and without that 5th class I’m under 30 credits. Business is going to be my second choice though so I could end up being accepted for that, who knows.
@pomeranian4rich how many GEs will you have completed by this spring?
@jjcc77 all my GEs will be completed by spring. just taking one GE in spring.
