@pomeranian4rich alright thanks for the input, I know I should only be taking everything I hear with a grain of salt but any sort of encouragement goes a long way because we’re in for a long ride through the next 3-6 months (although you’ll probably be in by April)
@penntousc waiting is the hardest part lol. waited till mid-july last year just to receive a rejection lmao. it’s like waiting for a girl’s response to your proposal
So I’m applying as a junior transfer for fall 2017 from a 4 year university (University of San Diego) with a 3.85 GPA as of right now (however, my major pre req GPA is a 4.00 so hopefully that helps). When they talk about credits needed to qualify for junior standing, does that include AP credits? I will have 57 credits completed by the end this spring from classes that I have taken at USD, but I sent in my AP test scores through collegeboard and I know for a fact that my 4 on my AP Psych test will give me 4 credits at USC. So with the AP credit, I will have 61 credits completed by this spring, but if we are just talking about credits from college courses alone, I will have 57. I just want to know if I will be labeled as a junior or sophomore based on this. I really hope I would be labeled as a junior because I don’t want them to look at my high school record really
@pomeranian4rich most definitely lol
@cassidylynnn actually, you only need 30 transferable credits for USC to review your application based solely on your college stats, so you’re in the clear there
@penntousc oh wow that’s great. Thanks!
I think if I have over 30 transferable units by end of spring (which I should if everything transfers) I have a good shot at getting in with a 3.9. Will have 6 gen eds done by spring and progress towards my major (econ)
@usc4ever Not to bring up something a bit old but I also remember one of my favorite applicants from 2014 who got an SGR because he was taking business calculus in the spring. I believe his username was something like dmdwelle, but he hasn’t been active here in some time. Anyway, I recall him mentioning that he bombed his business calc final and wound up with a B in the class. This caused him to sweat buckets. He heard of his acceptance very late - I want to say it was something like July 15th. Not only that, he even got in for the fall semester despite being told by staff at USC that if he were accepted so late into Marshall, it would certainly be for the spring semester. He only had like 1 or 2 USC applicable GEs completed according to the stats he posted on the transfer stats page, so it really seems like it all came down to business calc for him.
Do you have any advice for out of state transfers? @zettasyntax
Does anyone here know what the “National Society of Leadership and Success” is? I’ve heard of PTK but I don’t really understand the point of these organizations
Never mind, just saw that it’s an unnecessary waste of time lol
@balshii Be from Texas? Haha. There were so many Texans at my orientation In all honesty though, no, I don’t really think I have useful advice for out of state transfers I’m from the LA County area, so I can’t say I had the same experiences as an out of state student.
Hey everyone! I’m applying to USC for this upcoming fall. First and foremost, good luck to everyone. I’m currently sitting at a 3.5 GPA as a Political Science Major. I have a few questions. Will they look at winter grades when factoring GPA? Im currently taking two courses, and if I get A’s it should boost it up to a 3.57 GPA. My EC’s are pretty good as well. I’m a Veteran, I used to be the voluntary coordinator for my command while enlisted in the Navy. I currently work at Veterans Affairs helping disabled vets find jobs. I’m just worried about the low GPA. It seems like sub 3.5 acceptances aren’t very common. Does anyone know the transfer GPA average for political science? Thanks you guys.

Reason I was a part time student for some of my time was due to Navy policy in which we couldn’t take more then 6 units while in a actively deployed status. I also have 2 W’s due to being called to deploy for 2 months for the Fall 2015. Just wondering how do my chances look.
I think you’re doing good and have a shot. Try to nail all As in you spring classes and make sure your essay is well written.
@pomeranian4rich @penntousc thank you guys! I around school and apparently the class and everything is taken completely off your transcript if I drop before the deadline of census.
Do they consider spring classes???
So for the Letter of Rec, I guess what i was trying to ask is how long of a heads up i should give and if i should mention that it’s because I’m trying to transfer out
Thanks!
@gottastudy54 honestly, you probably would have been best off asking for a rec at the end of the fall semester (that’s what I did) that way your professor would have had time before and after holidays to complete it, so I would recommend that you get in touch with whichever professor(s) you wanted to write your rec as soon as possible. Doesn’t necessarily need to be ready by time of application since you can send them by mail, but the common app has a specific tool to invite recommenders which is very useful, and I’d recommend going that route.
and how important are Extra curriculars? Right now im an intern for the student government at my school but im currently not in any other organizations or clubs.
I was thinking about writing for the school newspaper or joining a club like MUN but not sure how much of an impact it will have
