2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

@camigrace not too familiar with SCA, but here is the link with the GE curriculum requirements:

You have the writing completed, which is a big plus, especially considering you’ve got a 4.0, and obviously the portfolio is pretty important which you do have. In terms of financial aid, USC meets 100% need, but they do seem to be stingy with what exactly that need is. Here is a link to USC’s financial aid calculator, I’m think that it is usually pretty accurate, so you can get an idea of what type of need based aid you would receive.

Good luck!

@penntousc hi! I have a quick question…I just looked at the GE curriculum requirements you linked above and i will 6 completed by the end of spring semester (if i calculated it right), and then either one or two major related courses (my major is psychology so I’m applying to dornslife) I looked at the articulation agreement and for some of the classes that were able to be transferred, I couldn’t figure out what GE category to put them under so that’s why my math may be a little inaccurate (i just didn’t include them in the count). I haven’t completed any of the life/physical science and global perspective GE courses though but the rest i should have done. I got a 4.0 GPA last semester and go to a CSU. does that sound competitive enough for USC or not really?

@moncc44 if you’re a sophomore applicant, you are definitely competitive. If you’re applying for your junior year, it might be tough since you would still have 3 GEs to go, and USC typically expects junior applicants to have the GE curriculum completed. It’s not like it’d be impossible for you to get in, but it would obviously be a little more difficult.

@moncc44 I’m not @penntousc, but I just saw your post and thought I would reply anyways just to be helpful lol. It all really depends on the rigor of your courses tbh and how many credits you will have completed at the end of spring. They want to see that you’re taking classes that are not all super easy classes if that makes sense haha–but one person’s perception of easy may not be the same as someone else’s perception of easy, so it can get a little confusing. If it satisfies USC’s GE curriculum on the articulation agreement with your CSU, then you should be fine. If you don’t know for sure, I would contact your assigned USC admissions counselor for your school. You can find him/her on USC’s undergrad website. For example, a 4.00 with intermediate algebra in your schedule probably isn’t as competitive as a 4.00 with Calculus in your schedule; I am just listing an example because I don’t actually know what classes you have taken/are taking.

@moncc44 it just slipped my mind that you have to complete 2 core literacies at USC so I take that back, IMO you’re competitive regardless as long as you’ve completed the writing, diversity, and math requirements for USC

@cassidylynnn out of curiosity since my schedule is set in stone, what do you think would be considered rigorous? They say rigorous and I hear rigorous but GEs are typically less rigorous than major courses, and it’s not like USC expects their students to complete 2nd and 3rd level courses as freshman (I’m a freshman), and they really only expect them to take 16 units while also recommending a 2 unit elective… transferable 2nd and 3rd level courses at my CC have nontransferable prerequisites, so it wouldn’t even be worth it for me to attempt them, especially since those 2nd and 3rd level courses aren’t related to my major (business). I mean, I’ve completed an equivalent Calc1 course, I’ll have the writing completed with an A, diversity completed, and 6 GEs by the end of spring (had a 4.0 fall, likely a 4.0 spring). IMO the only “extra” rigor I have is the calc course and the fact that while I’m taking 16 units per semester, it’s actually 5 classes instead of 4… like I said, they say rigorous but idk what more would be expected of me out of a CC (I’m in PA so I’m lucky that there’s even an articulation agreement)

@penntousc @cassidylynnn thank you so much for answering i really appreciate it! and yes i am a sophomore transfer applicant and both my parents graduated form USC:) (if that helps)

@moncc44 no problem! Good luck!

@penntousc ignore all of that. As long as you complete their requirements you’re fine. I know this guy last who who took precalc and bus calc and got admitted while I took calc 1 and 2 which is more rigorous than precalc and bus calc combined. So the rigor doesn’t matter as long as you fulfil the requirements.

Anyway, admitted to my backup school! UIUC! Though very unlikely I’ll be attending.

Hey guys, the comment app says I have to put an academic advisors information, I’m attending a cc and the counselors there are useless as I have been doing everything on my own. Who should I list on that section?

@Psawyer113096 USC says it’s not required. You can put anything because they won’t check.

Thank you so much!!

So I was reviewing my application and saw I submitted the wrong essay. Is there any way I can fix this? I emailed the admissions office and they said there’s nothing they can do. But there must be something?

@pomeranian4rich that’s kind of what I was thinking, because the classes wouldn’t transfer to USC if they weren’t ridiculous enough to begin with

@chap97 I made a typo on my essay and they told me that they were able to accept my new version and add it to my file if I emailed them or submitted the new version on my yousc portal under the submit documents tab. I would assume you could do the same for your circumstance but I do not know for sure because your situation is different than mine. I feel like you should be able to do that though…

@chap97 what do you mean the wrong essay? Usually there’s nothing that can be do, at least nothing I’ve ever heard of

I was filling out the supplement for both media producing and media studies and thought I was under the media studies tab and say my media production essay so I exited and refreshed, clicked media studies again and saw the same essay. I then deleted that one and uploaded the correct one. I don’t know what happened but the media studies essay was uploaded under both sections.

@chap97 I think you should call your admission counselor and send in the copy of the essay you wanted them to see through the mail. Since on the commonapp it dosen’t allow you to change it once you submitted.

@chap97 unfortunately because the admissions office said there’s nothing they can do, there’s not a lot of room for you to do something since you no longer have access to your application… You could always email your admissions counselor directly to see if they’d be willing to update your essay.
Also, when you get access to portal there may be a section to which you can upload something even though there’s no guarantee that they will read it. But at least at that point, you’ll know that you’ll have done everything you can.
Good luck!

@chap97 if all else fails you can file to be taken out of the application through the you.usc portal and resubmit your app through your common app if you’re willing to pay the fee again…
