When I log into my YouSC portal, in the Document Management System Page, it lists documents for upload/fax. The list includes, the High School transcript, and my De Anza college transcript. I already sent my De Anza and high school transcripts to USC, do I also need to upload these documents?
@Skepta No. As long as you sent the transcripts through the schools’ systems, you shouldn’t have to manually upload them. Weird to think that they would even have that as an option haha
@Skepta @cassidylynnn
They always have that option just in case, for example, if you’re a last minute transfer and want to get those documents in right away you have the option to upload it manually as a temporary thing until your schools get a chance to process your request and send it (can take a few weeks (processing time, mailing time, time in transit, time it takes for USC to upload into your application). Or if some tech fluke happens and they didn’t get it from your high school/college and notify you that they need you to submit your transcripts, you can, again upload a manual copy temporarily so that they know you got their message and be a temporary sub until your official ones come in
It also acts as a checklist (check, “insert name here” submitted their transcripts)
If you are to send transcripts by email, what email do we send the transcripts to?
@stahboy (Hi! I remember you from 2015 USC applicants haha what a rough time, here we are… back again…)
If you are talking about manual uploads (non-official) USC portal would be the best bet so it gets directly attached to your app right away. You could probably e-mail your specific counselor as well. Probably not the best to email it to admissions (general) since it could easily get lost because they have a lot going on with a lot of people emailing them, while as your counselor has a specific district.
However, if you send in your official transcripts (this would be done by your high school and college directly and not by yourself, there really is no reason to send transcripts by email because they only use the OFFICIAL transcripts provided by the schools themselves. Those should be sent by mail to the USC admissions office (maybe fax? but for the most part they are sent in physical mail form) All you have to do is request your school(s) send out transcripts, pay the fees (if applicable) and wait for your school to send it out to USC.
@mellyjune Hey! Oh what times! Yeah I sent a paper transcript through my school and just hoping that it made it there. I made a terrible choice in 2015 USC RD
@mellyjune thank you! I was worried that I need to obtain them again to upload.
@stahboy these two years (though short) have definitely made me grow up (yuck cliche, I’m sorry!) but reading back on my essays they really weren’t amazing and most of all I was so hellbent on getting into USC my essays were just not very strong and I didn’t articulate my emotions and feelings very well back then so I’m working harder, that being said, we’ve both grown up and USC will see that. They chose you once before and you’ve only become a bigger and better person. Good luck! As we’ve been through this road together before I honestly have nothing but good wishes for you! Even if we never meet in person, I hope that come decision time we will both be enrolling as incoming Trojans! (That goes for everyone, good luck good luck good luck!)
@Skepta @stahboy if for some reason your transcripts don’t arrive, USC won’t hold that totally against you because it’s not you specifically who has to send them in and mail does get lost. They’ll inform you if they’re missing anything. Obviously having everything on time is ideal but things can happen. If you have already submitted your transcripts, you shouldn’t have to worry about them. maybe email your counselors if you’re really concerned about them not arriving. Also keep in mind that your transcripts can arrive later (reasonably) than your application and USC will still deem your application to be complete.
how bad is it if i found a typo in one of the supplements i sent. it says “by interest” instead of “my interest”, will this honestly have a negative impact? if so how big?
@skepta obviously it’s ideal to not have any typos but it happens all the time. Admissions officers won’t see it and be like “nope, trash pile!” (Obviously if there are a ton that’s going to be an issue.) I wouldn’t lose sleep over it but I have seen other posts of people who had the same issue that emailed their specific counselor about it and were able to send in a revised version that fixed the typo. Worst case scenario, admissions officers read the version with the typo. It won’t be the thing to break you. Also there’s a chance that some of them might not even see it. Keep in mind they read THOUSANDS of essays and while they read everything you send, they are reading quickly. Their brains may just automatically autocorrect the typo without registering it since the typo is so small. (also when you read ‘by interest’ in your head, it sounds a lot like ‘my interest’ haha)
It’s really your decision, as it might be good to face your mistake head on and address it first (and may have the chance to revise your essay) but it could also draw attention to something they might not have noticed/they might not care a whole lot about.
if we submitted our common app alrdy, when do we receive info for the usc portal login?
@usc4ever this was for undergrad and I had submitted my app in early November but didn’t receive portal login until after Dec 1 (which was the scholarship deadline)
Don’t worry I didn’t still remember all these specifics hahaha I just went diving into the archives of my email.
My guess is it’ll be coming soon.
@mellyjune yea that was the only one, so im not gonna email, my cc gpa after 23 quarter units is 4.00 so hopefully that allows them to give me a chance.
@skepta that’s the best and most accurate indicator of your academic abilities not having a single typo in what I imagine to be a very good essay! Good luck!
@AGoodFloridian Yup! I’m assuming also ur a Viterbi Applicant as well Also I hope us “Young Folks” get in too Viterbi (Nice Profile Picture). I’m so anxious and excited that I’ll be hearing in a few months, but definitely freaking out for the Spring Semester. Let’s finish strong!
Does anyone know if transcripts are due feb 1st?
@Psawyer113096 I was watching the live chat the USC admission counselors did, they said only the common app and writing supp are strictly due by Feb1st, its okay if the transcripts come it a bit later, as long as they arrive like atleast before march.
thanks to @penntousc who posted this in last years thread. For those who are stressing this might help, (atleast it helped me).
I don’t know if this will help at all, but I contacted my counselor yesterday asking what the common reasons for rejection were, and here was her response:
"Hi Cory,
The main reasons that transfer students are denied are:
-they have not satisfied our math or writing requirement
-they have mostly taken courses that are not relevant to their major or general education
-they have not been enrolled full-time
-they have not earned mostly A’s
-they have applied to a talent based major and were not selected by that committee
It seems like you are already on the path to being a competitive applicant. At this point, I would recommend working hard to get strong grades in the college courses you selected!
Best,
Brittany"
I thought my essay’s were not 10/10 but after reading this im more confident since i will have done everything they seem to want.
@Skepta Thanks for your help!
if you get a SGR (and would have completed 6/8 GE’s and all major reqs by spring) and all the grades you submit for the SGR are A’s. are you guaranteed to get in?
