2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

Has anybody had to withdraw their application and resubmit it because of mistakes?

“How’s social life at USC?”

:))
It’s one of the most vibrant social atmospheres in the whole country. Go on niche and look up USC and tell me what it ranks number one in.

I think another option though, probably better than a frat, is to just get an off campus apartment at the Tuscany or Lorenzo, because then you’re living with a building of USC students like you would be in a dorm

@stahboy ahhh you too! Thank you! I about ready to submit my app! I’m also transferring from a private 4 year (not ivy though hahah) so best of luck to us!

Quick question. If I have GE courses that would be satisfied by a couple of AP courses I took in high school, should I send in my AP scores? A couple of the scores are not so stellar, but I have ones high enough to satisfy a couple GE’s. Is it better to send them so they see a couple extra GE’s that could be satisfied? Or should I not send them so my not-so-good scores on a couple AP tests doesn’t reflect badly on my application?

Also

Do we recieve a youSC login once we submit our app? Or should I make an account now?

@guitar333

You do not need to send AP scores until after your accepted. It’s a similar process like applying to colleges in highschool. You usually wouldn’t send your ap scores to every college but self report them on the common app.

You will get an email to set up your YouSC account after you submit your application. Not right away but once your application is processed and they create one for you.

Hi guys,
So when do we find out if we get in? Do they wait to tell us all together or is it when they know, they tell us?
Will applying early mean you know faster?

Also, when did you guys submit your application?

@cc2LAuniversity I submitted mine earlier this week, but applying earlier doesn’t mean you’ll receive a decision earlier. You get your decision depending on how many credits you have. Everyone receives either a decision or an SGR by June 1st, and if it’s an SGR you could be waiting anywhere from early June to mid July for a decision. If you don’t receive an SGR, your decision can come anywhere between late March to June 1st. Really depends on the amount of credits completed, major reqs and prereqs completed, GEs completed, and GPA.

Whenever I paste my essay into the designated area on the common app it always miscounts my total words… Ive tried multiple times to retype my essay in the box, but still gives me trouble. word count on Word says 625 words whereas common app says 800… any suggestions guys?

@peace4allpeeps if there are spaces between paragraphs, get rid of all those like if you have something like this

blah blah blah blah blah

essay essay essay “pick me USC!”

“I’m an awesome person” essay essay essay

change it to -

blah blah blah blah blah
essay essay essay “pick me USC!”
“I’m an awesome person” essay essay essay

on commonapp after you paste your essay and then go in and redo the paragraph breaks inside the designated area in commonapp. That should fix the word count.

@mellyjune
hmmm I think I understand.
Even if my essay is structured slightly differently I should make the same changes?

for example;

Blah blah blah blah blah

essay essay “trying to sound smart”

“I’m desperate to be a trojan” essay essay

Blah blah blah blah blah

:stuck_out_tongue:

@peace4allpeeps hahaha that’s even better!

is there a thread for Cornell 2017-2018 transfers as well?

What’s the difference between you guys’ “pursuing academic interests at USC” essay and your “reasons for transferring” Common App essay? Just curious because mine sort of overlap each other.

@smileesarefree I used the transfer essay as a more broad overview of everything that makes USC great and the major I wish to pursue.

The academic interests essay I went into specifics about my own major and the programs I want to be a part of.

@Skepta http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/cornell-university/1927717-cornell-fall-2017-transfer.html#latest

So if the maximum of our core literacy classes we can take is 6 out of the 8 available (because they want us to take 2 of them at their campus), would taking 7 improve my chances at all? Or would it be pointless?

@smileesarefree shouldn’t make a difference

@stahboy @guitar333 I’ve had two people at USC tell me that I had to send my AP Scores along with my application in order for credit to be applied for my math prerequisites. Maybe because it’s just for prerequisites but I would think it applies to all AP scores.

@smileesarefree yeah doesn’t make a difference I attended a big transfer even at USC a week ago and admissions director doing the presentation said completing more would basically be pointless. Just like being a business admin major and completing Econ courses.
