2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

@USCfan1 oh I didn’t expect to have a shot at the Village, I was saying that since the Village would house 2500 students, it’ll open up 2500 other spots on campus for transfers

@pomeranian4rich I work as a lab assistant on the campus so I have a bunch of USC apparel already. Its gonna really suck if I don’t get in because going there almost every day makes me want to be a student there even more.

Yes to the apparel question! I haven’t bought a single piece of college apparel at my current school because I knew I was going to try to transfer. Once I make a decision about next year I’m buying ALL THE THINGS.

Is it difficult to get transfer housing on-campus? I heard that transfers usually end up off-campus…I can’t afford that. Does USC guarantee on-campus housing for transfers? And when can we start applying for housing?

@kamtea USC does not guarantee housing for transfers, but like we were saying, the installment of the Village could very well make room for nearly every transfer on campus next fall. If that doesn’t happen, there are lots of options for housing that aren’t really any more expensive than USC’s on campus housing (Tuscany, University Gateway, Lorenzo, etc). Obviously though, you can’t start applying for housing until you are accepted, which is the reason that in past years, most transfers would live off campus since the decisions come out so late.

Random Question:

Does anyone know where the 2017 NYU Transfer thread is? Or any past transfer threads for NYU from recent years? Not sure if I am completely missing them or if I am just looking in the wrong place.

Thanks!

(This particular USC thread has been extremely helpful so I am hoping to find something similar for NYU.)

Is it worth it to join PTK? I just got an invitation in the mail but don’t know much about it, was wondering if any of you could explain it since a lot of you are in it.

lol never mind I just read a little bit about it and have no interest

How long does it take for USC’s application portal to update that they have received your documents. I sent my high school transcripts February 16th but USC says they haven’t received them. My high school is like 20 minutes from USC so I dont see why it would take this long. Can you call and ask the admissions office if they have your stuff or do you have to just wait for the portal to update?

@lilego69 Yeah it takes a while, Idk how long it took for mine like maybe… 2 weeks+. But I think it’s updated simply whenever the person who handles the incoming documents gets to your file and updates your account.

I think it is worth a chance to send everything in and apply on the common ap. what’s to lose by trying.

@scriavel go on google and search “USC net price calculator”

To my knowledge, the estimate that they provide is fairly accurate. I know that they are very generous to low income families, not really generous at all to upper class families, but in terms of middle class, the aid really varies a lot. Try out that calculator and you should have a pretty good idea of where you stand. Good luck!

@scriavel everything I’ve seen in terms of the packages transfers were receiving last year is similar to those given to freshman. I’m almost certain that being a transfer doesn’t affect the financial aid package you’ll receive, at least for USC in that case.

Does anyone know if we are supposed to submit our FAFSA through the USC portal or if we should just go to fafsa’s website and do it? If Im sending the FAFSA to all the schools I applied to should i not send it through my USC portal? I want to make sure that I can see that USC received it though. Also, are we supposed to submit both a FAFSA and CSS or just one or the other? Thanks for any help!

@swim0220 I submitted my FAFSA through their website (FAFSA’s) and it went through fine. My portal says they received it. I added 9 different schools to my FAFSA that I applied to and didn’t do it through USC’s portal.

You need to do FAFSA and the CSS Profile. CSS is a whole different process and it can take some time to fill it out. It also costs money 8-|

If your parents are separated or divorced, be prepared to have the parent you don’t live with fill out their own information through CSS’s website. Just a heads up.

@jonathaanv awesome thank you so much! i really appreciate ur help!

@penntousc NO DONT JOIN PTK.
I made the biggest mistake joining it.

What is ptk??? I’m curious @penntousc @CornellAEMplease

@scriavel Everyone was right…your putting $70 to put it on your app…but u get what u take out of it…if you don’t go and participate, now you show on your app hey look, I’m so lazy I paid $70 and didn’t even show up.

But i mean if u put u did something major with it…it’s good

Hey guys I submitted FAFSA and CSS but USC is asking for additional information. Is this also all due by March 2nd?
