2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

@moncc44 I just happened to be reading from last years thread and assumed you meant for that post about the CSS PROFILE to be on this thread… to answer your question, yes it is required if you want to be eligible for financial aid. In my case, I submitted the CSS but then submitted a waiver (which is available in the document library) for my noncustodial parent. Not sure if that is the problem you are running into, but figured I’d mention that as well.

@penntousc thanks for getting back to me, I just called the office of financial aid and they told me not to worry about the CSS. I have no idea why, but the guy checked my account and told me that they received my FAFSA and that they have everything. I’m just worried because I know it’s due tonight. How does the CSS differ from the FAFSA?

@moncc44 that is weird, I called last week since I was having a lot of trouble filling it out and they told me it was required, guess it just depends on who you get on the phone. The CSS isn’t much different, it’s honestly just more frustrating to fill out IMO, and you have to pay for it.

Anybody need to submit the non-filler tax return from the IRS to USC? Since I’ve never worked and done taxes I have to submit a form to the IRS that I need proof that I don’t do taxes and it’s been almost 2 weeks and nothing

@Pantafootball students who haven’t worked have to submit a non filer tax return? that doesn’t make any sense to me… is that something that you know for a fact? I can understand why they would want that from parents, but the vast majority of students who actually do work still don’t make enough annually to be required to file…

@penntousc I know … it’s so dumb … I guess they use it as a way to absolutely make sure you’re not making millions a year LOL. And I don’t know about everyone but on my financial aid page where it shows required documents I have it pending and being required by Usc. It’s the only form I have left to turn in out of everything that they asked for.

@Pantafootball it wasn’t required for me but I just went and filled it out anyways so that it’s done… I panicked though and I probably should have just waited for it to be listed under required lol

@penntousc they’re actually requiring me to get an official document from the IRS that I didn’t file taxes for 2015… which I have to scan and upload to them … I have no idea why I’m doing it while others don’t have to. It’s an annoying process because I have to fill out this IRS form and mail all the way to Ohio or something and then they process it and send me back the document I need… it’s been two weeks and nothing … so annoyed :-L

@Pantafootball yeah that really sucks… I’m currently banging my head against the wall for submitting that form when it wasn’t even required, it’d be my luck for them to now ask for the same form that they’re requiring from you

@penntousc oh okay makes sense. would i still receive financial aid if I don’t fill it out? because I thought the FAFSA automatically makes you considered for financial aid

@moncc44 im not sure since you were told that you didnt need to fill it out… USC has always required the CSS from everyone if they wish to be eligible for financial aid, so maybe it’d be a good idea to call and double check

I also have to do the non filing verification form and I faxed it to the IRS and I’m just waiting to get the transcript back from them

I called the financial office, and they told me that I can upload the copy of CSS to the portal, so that I don’t have to pay for it.

@dreamla hey I’m wondering how long have you been waiting I’ve been waiting for two weeks!

Does anyone know when is the last day to do the CSS / Financial Aid PROFILE?

@Orlando1997 Today is the deadline, March 2

Does anyone when the noncustodial CSS is supposed to arrive? I submitted the FAFSA and the CSS on time but it is taking my noncustodial parent longer than usual.

@Mastodon97 I don’t think it’s anything to worry about, I submitted the waiver for that on Monday and that still hasn’t gone through so they’re probably just really busy

@penntousc Thats good to know,

Also I was wondering if any of you have anything showing up in the “required documents” for financial aid in YouSC? Nothings shown up on mine?

I submitted my FAFSA already, but I called the financial aid office and they told me it was not necessary for me to submit the CSS. does anyone know if March 2nd is a strict deadline, or if it can be submitted later?
