@graceeeeeee Ah no way!!! How was revisit day???
@buuzn03 I thought that a profile change may be nice, although I think I may have liked the old one better… :)>- . Either way, who doesn’t want to see a chihuahua’s head sticking out of a sock (or whatever that is)??
it was so fun! i saw english and physics, and i had a burger for lunch. the orchestra was GOD TIER. and the step team? i didn’t even know they had that-- so cool! i bought a jacket today, so it’s kind of official! i’ll be seeing you in september right?! :))
@graceeeeeee that orchestra was nuts. And you’ll see me for sure!! I just ordered some sweatshirts and hats and stuff so I’m gonna have so much Choate stuff! That step team was so cool - I don’t think that I could’ve been that synchronized if I practiced for months :))
Now, whats wrong with MX? @lusitari
I guess I don’t like the size and the isolation from a town. It seems very small and tucked away which I can’t appreciate too much at the moment. @panpacific
It seems to me “what’s wrong with MX” is easier to get over once you are there and get used to it. Then, are you sure your worried about Exeter’s “intensity” justified? They accepted you which means they trust you will be able handle the academics and the life there. Is there any particular reason why you think that the intensity is too much for you?
It’s so funny to read these opinions, on this thread and the one about Groton being too small. The small isolated school was DS favorite things about both Groton and MX! And he wouldn’t even consider PEA because he said you couldn’t tell where the school ended & the town began…Lol. To each his own…
@buuzn03 That’s right. For us, neither kid cared for small schools. One of them did apply to a school that had fewer than 400 students only because there was no otherwise viable options around a particular location of interest.
Thank you. I guess I think I’d be able to handle the work and all. But I do have my apprehensions considering I only have 1-1.5 hrs of HW at my LPS. Either way, there will be guilt, as there is in all tough decisions. But in the end, I think I’ll be happy. At least I hope! @panpacific
If you intend to work hard, and I am sure you do - why else did you want to go to a more rigrous school whether it’s Exeter or MX - you will be fine, even in Exeter. If you think MX will be much more comparable with you LPS pace, think again… Time is running out. Make a decision already! good luck!
@lusitari is it really the intensity of PEA that concerns you? Or is it that the school gives off an intense vibe that intimidates you/makes you uncomfortable? Because they are both intense schools when it comes to academics, but maybe one approaches it in a way that more suits your personality. Maybe that, in itself, is the answer your question.
I intend to work very hard and keep organized and focused. I guess I’m used to the lectures so MX seems more comfortable and normal. But then I remember that I didn’t apply to feel more comfortable, I applied to learn in new ways and grow in all dimensions. That’s why my focus keeps going to Exeter, and then it slowly wanes off when I think of the comments about PEA being the “most stressful” and the “pressure cooker.”
Here’s one thing I forgot to mention. My Dad favors MX by a lot (even though he says it’s my choice :))), so I’m getting quite a bit of external pressure from him.
I think I can pull through and decide tomorrow. Good job to me for taking forever…claps
Also, thank you for hanging with me and supporting me. It’s much appreciated.
Is anyone going to Concord next year? Not many threads on CC about it. Would love to hear from any CA parent or student with advice about CA!!
@lusitari - Why does your Dad favor MX so much?
@sciguy656 Have you made your final decision?
@lusitari make your own decision for your own reasons. The not so subtle push by members here towards a particular choice are unseemly.
They are both great schools, but different in many ways. Your concerns or apprehensions are legitimate because YOU hold them, regardless of whether others view them as legitimate. Consult with your family and make the best decision you can.
@lusitari , I would ask your dad @HMom16 's question and listen really carefully to the answer. He may feel it’s the best place for you (which is why parents tend to weigh in on these matters). But you and he may not see you and your aspirations the same way. Or you may and his perspective might be valuable.
I admit that I was very biased toward 1 school when DS was applying to BS because of my own world view. (That probably doesn’t surprise anyone here!) He chose that school but for different reasons.
The beauty of this decision for you is that you really can pick what’s best for you and still have made an excellent choice. You can’t go wrong!
@lusitari I hope you didn’t feel I was pushing one way or the other. I was just trying to help you delve deeper into the reasons you may feel one way or the other. I have no vested interest only to see that you’ve made a decision Best for you & your personality and only you can figure that out! Good luck–it truly is a win-win!
I haven’t really seen any biases from any of you. Thank you for all your kind words. I’ll let you know when I decide. :))
