***2017 National Merit Finalist Thread***

I was informed today of my finalist status. I’m from Zionsville, IN just northwest of Indianapolis. I was wondering what was the best way to inform the colleges I applied to of my finalist status, especially those regular decision colleges I’m still waiting on. Will informing them help my application at all? Thanks.

@MrGatsby - it certainly can. Best way is to contact the NMF coordinator if your college of interest has one (those who are sponsors will definitely have a liaison who works with admissions); if your college doesn’t have one, then simply contact your admissions counselor with a quick FYI.

@TexasMom2017 most likely he’s NMF but call today to confirm. Good luck!

@JBStillFlying thanks - I did call, and he is in! Whew, one less thing to worry about. Now if we could just get his college decisions!

USC Presidential Scholarship question: Anyone know the deadline to list USC as your first choice on NMSC documents? Is it early? March 1? April 1? Anyone research this lately? Thx.

My DD received her certificate at school today! I had been holding off calling, hoping the school would notify soon!

1470 PSAT (223 SI in TX)
1400 SAT
33 ACT
Only 4 AP classes (including 2 this year) in a competitive public high school.
All As.
She chose to concentrate her time on her AV production classes and activities, which were very time intensive.
Not a hugely impressive resume compared to many of your amazing kids, but thankful that this non-STEM kid stuck with her passion and still made finalist! So proud of all these kids!

Finalist in CA

Index: 226/228
PSAT: 1510/1520

@TEX151 USC is May 1 as per admission office to put as first choice.

Just called. DD is a finalist. We’re in Arizona. And the high school had not been notified yet.

Just called too since school had not been notified yet. Son is a finalist.

MD 222/228

D17 just accepted to UChicago in the EDII round - thankfully they guarantee $4,000 to NMF’s so she has that going for her!! LOL. She’ll be updating her portal with her first choice tonight. Can’t believe it’s over - what a wild ride it’s been!

Congratulations @JBStillFlying on D17’s acceptance and the NMF college sponsored merit!

just called and got finalist status confirmed from CA! definitely considering USC hopefully I get in!

Ok, I am starting to get nervous. We live in Kansas and my son: SI:222, ACT: 34, SAT: 1510, 3.8 GPA, 7 AP classes. He captained state Scholar’s Bowl, regional awards in theater, NHS, state Debate, Mock Trial, and Forensics and more but no letter, yet. The college counselor hasn’t said anything. Nothing in the mail.
Here is question 1: should the school already have the letter to them? My understanding is that those were sent on Feb. 6th. What I heard was that the letter to the families was sent on Monday (so I am not surprised we haven’t heard anything).
And question 2: I hear that ‘no news is good news’ but is it possible all the Permanent Semi-Finalist letters haven’t gone out? I don’t want to get his hopes up only dash them with the wrong letter.
Thanks to the people who put this thread together. I thought I was the only parent looking for information. dm

Call the number that is earlier in the thread. He is probably a finalist. Our school still hasn’t got the letter yet.

National Merit Corp. should be able to release that information to you, the parent. Definitely give them a call.

@DMM53064 My daughter received a confirming letter at home today in the Dallas area. If you haven’t called yet, maybe your son’s letter will be in the mail today! It was sent first class, so they should be arriving soon. Your son has great stats! Good luck!

So I’m new to this thread but I found out I was a finalist last week. I was wondering if any of you know any Full Tuition or at least schools with very generous national merit scholarships that are still accepting applications or are willing to make exceptions for late applications? Thanks

@frazzledsenior17 We’ve gotten letters from Oklahoma and ASU this month saying that although their deadlines had passed, they were willing to accept an application. Give them a try. Check with Alabama too.

Finally got my letter! I’m a finalist from ND!
