Has anyone heard anything (gotten news) about the TU Presidential Scholarship for 2017? My S is very interested in going to TU, but will need the Presidential Scholarship to make it possible.
No need here yet…!we are in the same boat… Tulsa #1 on list but need Presidential Scholarship
Yes, I received the scholarship package today!
They were sent out as priority mail yesterday, so expect to receive them in the next few days!
My S also received the scholarship letter yesterday! We are very excited! My wife and I are TU alums, so we really wanted him to be able to go there if he wanted, but the cost has gone up soooo much since we went there.
Curious if folk would share stats of those that rec’d or not.
Frustrated folk in my home this evening as child rec’d 3/23 email – NOT selected. Stats were 34/35(superscore) ACT, 1st in class, w/broad extracurricular’s but not sports. Converses/speaks well and interview went well. Attended Pres events early March. Child even survived a lightning strike past summer but didn’t get the news we much desired. Frustrating, the admission counselor that had great rapport w/our child left the employ of TU recently so incurred mid-stream counselor switch. On plus side, did get selected as Presidential Leadership Fellow w/token bonus grant. I must admit to wondering if taking the $1K/yr bounty to fill out the FASFA was a detriment or tie breaker.
Also, some additional data points. I overheard earlier this month there were 351 applicants (largest yet) and only 30 to be offered this year. Earlier in the process in an open meeting it was indicated the prior year was about 342 applicants with 44 offered. Lower statistical odds this year. Also frustrating was hearing they extended the deadline this year which smarts for those that applied by original deadline.
I received an email yesterday telling me I am a Presidential Leadership Fellow but not a Presidential Scholar (didn’t see anything about a grant though). Stats were 33 ACT/1580 SAT, NMF, 3.98 GPA in IB classes, 3/460 in class, planned two major community service projects. The admissions counselor even emailed me to say how much she liked my essay and how complimentary my rec letters were.
I’m pretty disappointed because I put all my eggs in this basket and haven’t put a housing deposit anywhere else or even seriously looked at other colleges since January and now it’s a bit out of my price range.
For those who have received the scholarship letter, how big/thick was the envelope? My child has not received any emails either way, and greeting card-sized envelope arrived today. Must wait until child is home after school to open it.
I got in a week ago.
