UCB (EECS) attending.
@firefliesdance how was your jee mains.I am expecting a score around 310 and would probably make it to IIIT-hyd.
Should I still remain with UCB or choose to stay?

310 is very good, maybe you should wait for iit adv and then decide

@DamnTypos It’s Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa (not the University in Ithaca :()

@collstu By IIIT-Hyd, I am hoping that you mean International Institute of Information Technology. IIIT is a very good institute. You can participate in UG research, attend conferences across the country…you can have almost everything here that a top US university offers.

I don’t know whether UCB has any advantage over IIIT-Hyd (except the flexibility in choosing what to study?). It’s up to you to decide.

@collstu- 310 is pretty great. I’m expected mid-290’s. I’d definitely go with UCB if finances aren’t a problem.

@collstu many people will recommend Berkeley over IIIT. If you are anywhere near Hyderabad, visit IIIT. I am not asking you to choose it!! Just take a look I live in Hyderabad and I also have friends in IIIT. So I know about it quite well.

As firefliesdance said, if finances are not at all an issue for your parents, go to Berkeley! More flexibility, more diversity, larger student body, probably higher number of motivated individuals than in IIIT.

Can anyone tell me what is the average cost of in UCB without aid?
@Firefliesdance How much are you asked to pay now?

$4500 per year pretty much covered both parent and student contribution for me at both colleges.
Like most tier 1 colleges, UCB is around $60K-70K per year if we’re talking sticker price.

I am really confused between Purdue and Penn State UP for Computer Science. Do you guys have any advice?

I am attending Stanford this fall.

@firfliesdance, Wow that’s a LOT of aid considering you’re not instate. However I’m guessing that most of the aid is in the form of Loans? So thats about $35,000 in loans per year which is going to be very hard to pay off. Correct me if I’m wrong…That much grant from a state university is VERY rare…

Lol, I’m probably a ■■■■■■ …I forgot you’re attending Cornell. When i read UCB in your post, I assumed the $4500 was your contribution there lol.

International student attending Franklin and Marshall College with almost full tuition paid for in grants Accepted at several other colleges, but none with that great aid. Btw, this is the second year I apply to college in the US. Persistence pays off!

EDIT: Oops, just noticed this was an Indian thread :P

SwedishChris

Congratulations. No worries. You are welcome to stay on. You still are on an International forum. I am sure everybody on the India Forum would love to hear your story and could use your insights in the admissions process as well.

@Pranesh- Wow. I don’t know very much about those schools but they’re both amazing. Congrats and good luck!
@DamnTypos- Yeah, Lol. I was talking about Columbia and Cornell. Not UCB.
@SwedishChris- Doesn’t really matter. Congratulations are in order! :)

Thanks You guys are being accepted at top ten colleges which is way more impressive!

@firefliesdance UCB costs around $56400/year(as written on UCB website).Does it really costs 60-70k ?

Lol @collstu- I was just guessing. Most of the so-called top colleges are in that range. Obviously, the Berkeley site tells you the truth. I’m just too lazy to google. :)

Little late to the party, but nevertheless, here is the breakdown (for BS in CS)-

Accepted - GTech, UIUC, ASU, UofA, Purdue(ha!), ISU.
Rejected - Cornell, Caltech.
Attending - Iowa State University (ISU)

Reason - Great CS department and good FA made it an automatic choice apparently.

Congratulations to all students going to college this fall. Wishing you bright future full of hope, peace and prosperity.

In addition, long live CC!

^Dude we are going to be nearly 2-3 hours away from each other! If you don’t mind me asking, how much aid did you receive from ISU?

attending columbia guys :D
