I just found out that I got into the college of arts and sciences for spring admission, and I’m really unsure of what I want to do. If I did choose to go to Cornell in the spring, what should I do this fall?
Are there any other 2018 Spring Admits out there? What are your plans for the fall?
FWIW, my daughter started in the Spring some years ago, but as a 2nd semester sophomore.
It can be a little tough at first, because most people entered in the Fall, and have already established their social connections, clubs, etc.
If I were you I would want some assurance that you will be housed in a freshman dorm. Or, failing that, in a coop, or other more intimate housing situation where you can get to know people. A “regular” upperclassman dorm may not be a welcoming environment for a new freshman.
.
Course-wise, I would take whatever you would have otherwise taken at Cornell. If you are first attending a school that has smaller classes, maybe load up on the classes there that will be large lecture courses at Cornell.
Believe it or not, one of the things you need to concern yourself with during Fall semester is arranging housing for your sophomore year at Cornell. Make sure you are on top of this, lest you be stuck taking the left-overs. People start making these arrangements in early Fall.
One way you can show up there in the Spring already knowing people is if you go on Outdoor Odyssey trip during the summer. https://odyssey.coe.cornell.edu/
If you are eligible to do it, which I would push for.
This could potentially help you a lot with your social integration when you show up in the Spring.
S3 was a FYSA spring admit last year (current sophomore) he spent the first semester at home at local community college. He got great guidence on course selections and all his credits transferred. Feel free to ask any questions.
Congratulations.
Okay, I understand that it’s personal and you don’t have to tell me exactly what the major was. I was hoping that if we had the same major, I could ask specific questions about what your kid’s experience was like searching for jobs and picking classes in that particular field given that he/she started in the spring.
My major is going to be Computer Science by the way.
