2018 Stanford Transfer Thread

@nick1234567892 im in the same boat as you… What was your conditions for UCLA? Waiting on Cal today

@GoldenState1
Report if you:

  • Drop a course
  • Get more than two C’s
  • Get any D’s/F’s
  • Get a C in a major prep course

@nick1234567892 I’m not sure what you mean as far as “contract”. I believe any grade above like a C- will transfer. I heard one transfer from the year before mine say they had not so hot grades (like a couple of C’s) on the midterm report of their second semester of their last year and Stanford contacted them about it before accepting them.

NOT to say that if you don’t get a call, you won’t get in or that if you get a call you will - it’s definitely a total crapshoot, and they’re the only one I’ve ever heard of getting a call, and they had more than one C. B’s are better than C’s, which you already knew.

I applied with a 3.95, had a 4.0 midterm report, and finished with three A’s, an A-, and my only B+ in my last semester, to finish community college with like a 3.92.

I got accepted to UCLA a few days ago, and just got accepted to Berkeley. So Berkeley would be my “back up school.”
Although if not Stanford, then Berkeley is the only school I would want to attend.

I just got accepted into Cal, my contract stipulates 3.0 w/ no lower than C in any class. l found out less than an hour after Cal that I was also accepted into Columbia GS in New York. Crazy experience!

@GoldenState1 Congratulations! I just got into Cal as well with a sweet financial aid package, can’t wait to hear back from Stanford!

@SmartJarhead Ahh that’s so great to hear, you have some fantastic options to consider now (and even the money isn’t entirely an issue!). We’re slowly creeping towards sub-5% territory. It’s scary and unpredictable ground, can’t expect anything but boy if you hit that goldmine it’ll be a feeling like no other :))

@AGoodFloridian For sure! I was so happy to get into UCLA and Cal, definitely gave me more confidence for the decisions coming within the next few weeks. Is Stanford pretty much your #1?

@SmartJarhead It’s always fluctuating between Stanford and Princeton, they both have exactly the program I’m looking for and great environments (academically and socially). I’m soooo much more relaxed now though, with Rice’s acceptance. Either way, we’ll end up in amazing places.

@AGoodFloridian They’re both amazing schools. And I definitely agree with you, having at least 1 great option in the bag relieves so much stress.

@mjr2013 I mean was there any grade/semester GPA that would risk your admission being rescinded? Also I did not submit a mid-term report since the website had no mention of it…

Like for UCLA, you could get rescinded if you get two or more C’s, D’s/F’s, or a C in a major prep class. Was curious if Stanford has some sort of policy regarding that. My greatest fear would be getting accepted and then rescinded.

@nick1234567892 I was never told of one.

The only thing I received to that regard of standards was, “To keep your place in the class, we expect you to maintain the quality of your character and to return a strong performance in the program of study reported in your application. Contact us first before making any changes to your academic schedule.”

Which seems to be purposefully ambiguous, and was received after my semester had already concluded.

@SmartJarhead if you don’t mind me asking… were you given any grants as part of your package? Mine were all student loans :frowning:

@GoldenState1 Yeah I got the “Transfer Student Scholarship” worth $29,930. Honestly I was going to choose UCLA over Cal but now I’m really conflicted because Cal comes out to $10,000 per year cheaper than UCLA  . I’ll probably have to call and check if this is something that will be awarded for both years or just junior year. Have you considered appealing their financial aid offer?

@GoldenState1 You’ve already heard back from Columbia??? Decisions aren’t supposed to be released until May 04. They just sent an email like seven hours ago so I’m really confused.

I have also gotten into Berkeley. Does anyone that got into Berkeley mind sharing their majors since I’m lazy and don’t want to check if you stated it previously in the thread?

I’m political science btw

@SmartJarhead do you know where I can go to appeal it? That’s awesome man congrats that is huge!

@AGuyWithAFry yeah I heard back yesterday its on a rolling basis so people have been hearing back for a few weeks now!

@GoldenState1 I’m not sure, I think you just have to call the financial aid office and explain the situation and ask them to take another look at your financial aid

Accepted to USC, Emory, and UGA. But financial aid hasn’t been great so far. I’m OOS so I never submitted apps to UCLA and Berkeley but super exciting to those of you who got in!

@socal77 Thanks! And congrats those are some awesome schools. I’m still waiting on USC, but I’m afraid the financial aid won’t be enough to attend there. Guess we’ll have to wait and see
