2018 Stanford Transfer Thread

@mjr2013 Has been a guiding light for all of us through this process lol

@mjr2013 Hey last year did they email you notifying when decisions will be released or did they just release it one day?

Does anyone on here actually believe in getting accepted? Or are you just gambling and hope for the best?

@Imoulse100 Just shooting in the dark. I don’t expect to get into any of the Ivy’s but you never know right? insert the “you’re telling me there’s a chance” meme

Does anyone know what time the decisions are released on the 15th?

@SmartJarhead it was something we were pretty sure was coming out before it did, but I don’t believe it was publicized. It’s been roughly the same date the last couple years, the second Wednesday in May. That was May 10th last year, May 9th this year. Released at 5pm Pacific time, 8pm Eastern.

I received an email 15 minutes after decisions came out informing me an update had been made to the application status. Had to login to find out.

@smarthead

@LMouse

gambling. I’ve officially committed to Cal and applied for family housing after initially holding out for the Ivies and Stanford. I figured if I win the lottery, Cal can keep my $250 donation (deposit). Otherwise, I’m excited for Cal and will shoot for Stanford for Grad school assuming I don’t get accepted!

Btw, I’m sure were all qualified to attend Stanford but there’s only so many spots! Looking at last year’s thread everyone that was confident of getting in didn’t and those that weren’t expecting were shocked and admitted. I’m glad @mjr2013 , it’s clear he’s a solid dude by his support for everyone on these forums ever since he got in. I’m glad Stanford saw that through his application. These are the kind of people that deserve to get admitted.

@MikePe23 this is exactly what I’ve been hearing too. Stanford has a very specific type of student in mind, most applicants have the grades and the skills, but there’s a certain personality type that appeals to them

@mjr2013 Hey dude, How do you sum up your first year (even though not over yet), in a few words? Social/community life, distractions, difference in difficulty from a cc?
Are you working as well? I remember your story, with being a bus driver and all (I’m a long time lurker :)… Do you feel you have a chance to finance yourself, while being a student?

My professor used to teach at Stanford and he wrote my recommendation, will that help me?

@mjr2013 I thought most of schools delay their decision like Upenn and Cornell. Is Stanford gonna release next wed?

@mjr2013 Hi, isn’t it being release May 15 as it says on the website, or do they usually just say that and release on the 2nd Wednesday of May instead?

@MikePe23 I would sum up my time so far at Stanford as “the greatest ‘fire hose’ experience of my life”. Everything is quick here - classes, ECs, social events, etc. etc. etc. - that I can always be busy, but always be having the greatest experience of my life.

Regarding the financing myself question, I took a small loan out for the first year’s student contribution (work study) because I didn’t want the extra stress of finding a job. In hindsight, this probably wasn’t necessary, I could have gotten a work study position pretty easily, but it was nice not to have that one extra worry.

@dancingmed Last year, it said decisions released by May 15th, and they came out on May 10th (second Wednesday of May). I just looked it up and it now just says “decisions released” May 15th, so it could be different now.

@mjr2013 I hope it comes out next week, I honestly can’t wait anymore. Thanks for all your help, I truly appreciate it!

@dancingmed Well, if the professor truly knows you well enough and you excelled in their class, then it definitely can’t hurt you. I imagine that having that letter will only help you because it is coming from somebody who taught at the school and sees promise in a student. Either way, don’t worry too much about it now. What’s done is done, and now all we can do is wait, as hard as that is!

I am really tickled with myself for applying to Stanford. I was on here and saw people saying they weren’t applying to Stanford as a transfer because it’s such a long shot.

Initially I agreed. A couple days passed and it bothered me I was scared to apply. When I saw the deadline wasn’t until March I was like wow. So I did it as a dare to myself. Worst case scenario ill have a rejection letter to laugh about years from now and I’ll still be proud of myself for submitting the app. Besides the USC application, I had the most fun doing the short answers and essays for Stanford.

I’ve been admitted to Cal and UCLA. Two other schools I didn’t think I had a shot at, so if I don’t get admitted to Stanford I’m happy to have amazing “backup” schools. Plus who knows if I would be able to afford it if I did get in. I also applied to USC (my original #1) but if I don’t hear back from them by 5/15 I’m over it. I have to make housing plans among other things, and my OCD won’t allow me to wait until the last minute. I also feel like they are aware of how stressful this time is for many applicants and having people wait up until the SIR date for many schools is rude.

@goodBrujo9 Check your portal for USC! I was accepted on the 31 and I believe that everyone either received their decision or was asked to provide spring grades already. Good luck!

@californiacc I just checked my portal and still nothing. USC was near the bottom of my choices due to costs. I’ve already accepted my offer to Cal as it was my #1 top school. (Stanford is my #1 reach school). I don’t think its accurate that they have released decisions en masse. @goodBrujo9 is right, I’m not hanging around until June 1st, after already being admitted to other schools! Duke releases admissions next week, have no idea why USC needs until June considering they were their app date is so EARLY!

@californiacc I’ve been regularly checking the portal. I applied to Annenberg. Based off last year’s thread, most didn’t hear back til late May. Most of it it staggered.

@GoldenState1 you’re right. USC deadline was 2/1. Docs no later than 3/1. Stanford deadline was 3/15. Docs due by 4/12. They release on 5/15 but USC is all over the place with their decisions? IMO, Stanford is making good use of their resources and respecting my time. It’s actually been one of my biggest turn offs to USC. That coupled with the fact my aid package may not be sufficient enough to attend anyway. Stanford is also my number one reach but I’m proud to be accepted to Cal and UCLA and would be happy attending either. My net cost for both is around $7k. Half of which I can do work study. Remaining apply for scholarship.

@goodBrujo9 @GoldenState1 Hi guys, my friend has not heard back either from the Viterbi Engineering school at USC. I got my acceptance last week, so I believe they are realeasing them as they go. Don’t worry about it too much, I thought I was not hearing back until June, but I got the box. BTW if you do get a decision, the box will come way before the notification on the portal. It took 3 days for my portal to be updated. I would keep an eye on informed delivery because that is what I did.
