@Prlewis9 you should definitely address that W. It can only help since it was due to an emergency.
Is usc biased when it comes to politics? what if I worked for a candidate who they might not like, should I still list the work experience?
I am applying to transfer to USC next year. Right now I am a freshman at UT Austin in the McCombs school of business, but am considering withdrawing this upcoming semester and coming back to California and going to a community college. My question is, does it look better for admission if I transfer from a four year university rather than a local community that USC is already familiar with?
^^^It’s more important that you have the proper pre-reqs and gpa rather than where they come from. Review the USC transfer guide page for page.Look specifically and carefully at Marshall requirements if wanting to go there. They have articulation agreements you can look up with the CC’s and many 4 years as well.
I am a sophomore at San Diego State University pursuing a transfer to USC. I am wishing to transfer into the Marshall School of Business or major in economics.
I have a question regarding a class listed on the USC Transfer Planning Guide. I have not yet taken the class mentioned in “Category G - Citizenship in a Diverse World”. I am just wondering if it would be wise for me to take this class this spring? Is it basically a must-have? Would it significantly hurt my chances if I do not complete this course?
@FutureTrojan100 I am putting my campaign experience on there regardless of their liking to my candidates of choice. I doubt they would use that as a reason to deny us since USC encourages diversity of opinions too. Those jobs still count as experiences within my field of study so they should help boost my application.
Ok experienced transfers jump in here…don’t you have to complete two of the GEs at USC in regards to question above by @southerncalboy ?
@zettasyntax? Do you recall? I am starting to forget some of the transfer details…we still need you here!
I spoke with a transfer student who got in after one year, and they told me that you must complete 2 GEs at USC no matter what (they had to do 3) @CADREAMIN
So I’ve read some posts on reddit claiming that transfers who have completed a total of less than 30 units but still very close to the 30 mark won’t have their high school grades/sat considered? Apparently, this reddit user called their admission counselor and that’s what they said. Can any transfer veterans confirm this?
I wouldn’t assume that to be applied to everyone at all, it is a one off that may be relative to just that individual. In general, they will be looking. Perhaps a transfer had applied to USC as a freshman but was denied, so they still have the file, so technically they wouldn’t need to look…but they already have that info. Or it could be a Trojan Transfer plan student coming in from a 4 year engineering program that rocked a 4.0 their first semester at college and had a stellar application the previous year (which is why they were offered TTP).
Never assume what you hear from one person applies to everyone and over-rides the USC Transfer Guide, which tells transfer applicants that under 30 they will need that info. Everyone has a unique application and history they bring to the table, thus the handling may vary, it is never one size fits all at USC.
@CADREAMIN Thank you for that response! Would USC include courses taken during the summer towards our overall units as well then? For example:
Fall Semester - I took 13 units
Spring Semester - I’ll take 16 units
Summer Semester - I’ll take a 1 unit lab course
This will ultimately add up to 30 or will usc not take the summer course since most people hear back at around may/june?
I think you’ll most likely hear back before you take the summer 2019 course, so USC would have to use your high school statistics along with whatever statistics you have now in college. They’ll most likely weigh the college statistics more though.
@Boson12 Oh, I see. Thanks for the reply.
Sorry for asking so many questions guys, but does anyone know how I am suppose to send in my college transcript and HS transcript? Do I just goto the school and ask them to order one and send it to USC? Or is there a section in the common app that allows us to submit our transcript?
School needs to send it. Almost every school (including a lot of high schools) have a way to go online and request, usually costs a couple bucks. Your cc certainly should. If you HS doesn’t you need to ask them how to request one sent. Hopefully it’s not the old school way where you have to pick up a sealed copy where you put the signature across the seal and mail yourself, but it may be.
There is somewhere on the app where you list your classes and grades or even if you can upload a transcript, you still have to have official one sent in.
@CADREAMIN Omg thanks again for answer ahah. It’s great to have someone so knowledgeable in USC like you Do you think you can answer my question above regarding the summer course as well? Will USC not take them into consideration?
It’s not really in progress at the time your app is submitted, so it won’t really “count” at time of evaluation. I guess it is listed as planned…but again it will not provide the hard cut off you are looking for. Are you trying to get them to not look at your HS stuff? If that is the case, it would be better to address it in the app - hit it head on if it is an issue. I am just guessing, but it seems like you are hoping to get HS out of the picture?
Have you started a conversation with your USC advisor?
@CADREAMIN Yeah I don’t really want them to look at my high school but specifically my SAT score. My gpa in HS was a 4.0 weighted, but my sat score is absolutely trash. Like really bad. So that’s why I’m a little nervous if they look “primarily” on my HS record. If I really want to address this then is there a section on the common app that i can use to address this? As for my counselor, I’ve been emailing her 3 times for 3 or 4 months and she has not replied back to any of them? What am I suppose to do to get in reach with her?
Don’t stress your SAT score, it is a small part of what is now a bigger application than that of a freshman applicant. You have college grades and work which will, as mentioned above, be given much more weight. You may have an unresponsive advisor, or be asking questions that are ones that usually work themselves out and there isn’t any real information they can provide. If you want, you can call admissions or the school you are applying to (they each have and advisor list on the website) and ask if that is still your advisor. Just be sure you are asking questions that can’t be found on the USC website.
Would it be suspicious if I checked “No” for “Release Authorization? (May we contact this organization)?” I don’t want them to contact certain organizations as some of them are busy, or don’t exist anymore.
Also do you have to send the transcript through common app
