2019-2020 USC Transfer

Chance me?
GPA 3.91, completed all pre reqs (Including Calc 1). I just finished an 8 month long internship with a non profit that provides funding for education in India. This company sent me to India to get more content and help with the schools there. I have two letters of req from a teacher and my boss from my internship. My first choice major is the Global Business program and my second is Business Admin. I’m worried that by putting Global Business as my first choice, I will have a hard time getting into USC because it seems to be a competitive major. By putting business as my second choice, do I receive lower priority in admitance even if I am rejected by my first choice?

Does anyone know where the additional information comment section is on the Common App? I’ve seen people talk about it on here and that it can be used to add any explanations for things but I cant seem to find it. Is it in the questions tab? I’m not seeing it anywhere.

@vegastransfer I just sent them a copy of my GED directly from the GED Testing Service. My admissions counselor said that was the preferred method. I wanted to just send them the original copy I had at home, but I guess they want a sealed copy.

Hello! Is anyone willing to take a look at my essay? I’ve heard that essays aren’t the most important part for transferring, so a quick look would suffice. If you want, I can look over yours too! (I know it’s so late I’m such a mess lol)

What if you make a last minute change to your courseload (such as adding a course or one of your existing courses now gives you AP credit)? I heard from the advisor at my college that I do not need to finalize it.

I was planning on applying as a business major but don’t have the calc requirement for Marshall. should I apply as a different major like political science which I have all the requirements for or open instead or just go for Marshall?

@arand17 I would definitely go econ if you don’t have at least calc this semester, better to get in econ than rejected marshall just because of a course requirement. For ACT scores do we have to send the official score report?

@ballout I emailed the common app about that but never heard back, let us know if you figure it out

@potatotush I’m always happy to read essays. And even share my own from back in the day if you wanted to read something amazingly cheesy :stuck_out_tongue:

@StipendAwarded You don’t necessarily have to inform USC about every course change - unless you think that change will really help/hurt you. For example, I was taking a math course that wasn’t even required of my major. I just believed that USC rejected me because I got a B in statistics and I wanted to prove to them that I could handle a “tougher” math course. That plan backfired spectacularly. I was really sick during that semester - I was in and out of the ER. I failed my first two exams in the math class because I simply didn’t have the energy to keep up with all of my classes. I dropped the course and took the W over something worse. I didn’t exactly let USC know about this change. I did add another course. It was an eight week session II section of a micro econ class. By this time, my health issues were getting better and I was able to dedicate the time that all my courses deserved.

@bvbchamps Yeah, I actually emailed my USC counselor about it awhile ago but never heard back from him either. I’m debating on using the document upload function instead. I got a W my very first semester when I didn’t really know what I was doing so I just wanted to write a short explanation.

@s0meUSCkid95 do you have any thoughts on above question? His bio seems a great fit for Global Business, but I have no idea how competitive it is compared to Marshall. I assume any major that is second choice is going to be at lower priority than if it is listed as first choice across the board, but maybe there are exceptions. Anyway, not my expertise for sure, can you answer this?

Hello guys. I submitted my Commonapp yesterday and got access to USC portal today. I sent my high school and college transcripts long time ago like a month ago. Do you guys know how long it usually takes for transcripts to show up on the portal?

@wantstogotoharvd I sent my transcripts back in like October before I even submitted my Common Application and they appeared immediately on the portal. It’s a pretty busy time for admissions so it may take a week for your transcripts to appear on your USC portal. Their portal is pretty up-to-date and is quick to upload things compared to other colleges.

Transcripts can take a week to two weeks (most) to show up. Especially this close to deadline. They can even show up in a day, but don’t sweat it if it takes longer.

Thank you guys for the answers. My portal still says all my checklists are “awaiting”, which is pretty frustrating. Even though I sent all of them a few weeks ago. And by the way, is it okay that it says “awaiting” for my Common Application, too? I really appreciate your help.

^^^If it has been an excessive amount of time, which it seems to be in your case, email your advisor or call USC admissions and ask if they show it received. They are there to help, it is certainly ok to call and ask.

I just made a last minute change to my transcript after the deadline. I will send a second updated transcript. How do you think it will be received?

Also, which section do I my high school transcripts on either the Common App or SlideRoom?

On the Common Application, do my courses have to be in the exact same order that they are on my transcript?

^^^ No.
