2019-2020 USC Transfer

@CADREAMIN One of my friend heard back in July last year and he did not get any SGR. The other one heard back in late May. All of them were from my current institution and they applied for Marshall (junior standing).

I wish USC could release all the decisions before May 30th!

@CADREAMIN is there going to be a stats and decisions discussion for this time around???

@CADREAMIN I found it nvm lol

Ya my bad I didn’t realize there was a thread already started. Will ask mod to delete duplicate. Duh me.

Do decisions notifications depend on the college you’ve applied to within the university? I remember reading in this thread that Viterbi applicants heard back in late April last year for non-TTP applicants. It’s a little unclear when the school decides to notify you, whether in April or May if you’re currently from a four-year research institute on a semester system. Even if you have high stats, I’m convinced the school will still ask for SGRs. Are the majority of sophomore applicants asked for their spring semester grades? Or, do most of the applicants hear in May than April? I’m asking about applicants not on the Trojan Transfer Plan and are not currently at a UC school (or quarter system school) or California community college, but about students from a four-year institution on the semester system out of California. I assume the decisions on SGRs and decision dates depend on which institute you’re at as well. I feel there is some confusion as to who hears back first and I’d greatly appreciate if anybody could give me a clear answer. Thank you so much!

how do i even check the portal lol, i applied on the common app

Is there a way to check if your application is being reviewed/looked over, awaiting review, or completed? Applied as a transfer from California CC to Marshall.

@bwko18 there should be an email sent to you with the portal link and your login information

@ckidd1991 the portal should list those information

I ended up dropping a class (luckily not a GE). What should I include in the email to update my academic status?

Hi does everyone know if I have a smaller chance if I’m transferring from a UC? I’m from UCLA and I want to transfer as a junior and i had a 3.69 when I applied. I’m hoping to get 3.8 by the end of spring quarter if everything goes right. Also cause UC schools are more difficult in grading I’m worried my GPA wouldn’t be high enough. But do they usually prioritize Community Colleges? I’m also on TTP. I’m so worried because UCLA’s comm is just too damn competitive and no offense, pretty useless. Regret going here and want to leave if I can

@Dreamingtobeout USC does prioritize Community Colleges, but not like how UCLA does for their transfers. 50% of USC’s transfers are from California Community Colleges and 10% are from California State Universities/University of California schools. However, if you’re on the Trojan Transfer Plan, I wouldn’t worry too much. A 3.69 at a four-year institute such as UCLA I would imagine speaks more than a 3.69 at a CC. The average GPA for accepted transfers is 3.7 and the average transfer applicant GPA is a 3.4, so don’t freak out. Here is a PDF of the statistics: https://admission.usc.edu/wp-content/uploads/TransferringToUSC_2018.pdf

@Dreamingtobeout Actually, these percentages are also affected by the number of applicants, not just on priority. Obviously more kids from community colleges would apply to transfer to USC instead of UC schools.

Hi I have 2 questions:

  1. How many people get the Transfer Program Invitation Letter? Everyone or only a selected few?
  2. If I spend my freshman year at one of the UCs, will that affect my chance in getting admitted through USC Transfer Program (since they recommend against 4-year college), even though I meet all criteria?

Thank you

@hotlot I am a part of the Trojan Transfer Plan and go to a UC so I feel like I can answer your questions. 1. A selected couple hundred applicants receive the option of the Trojan Transfer Plan in their rejection letter. If you get it you get the opportunity to meet with a USC admissions counselor in June. When I met my counselor in early June, he said that it does not matter where you go to school as long as you complete the prereqs and maintain a 3.6-3.7 GPA. 2. In my opinion, as long as you can get the GPA you need then it will be fine. Just make sure that you can achieve said GPA at your UC school. It does not matter what UC you go to, you will have to work really hard to achieve and maintain a 3.6 or higher. But other than that, I don’t think they have preferences of where you went to school. For example, I did not find studying abroad realistic for myself and I told my counselor that when I met up with him. He said that it does not matter where you go as long as you get the 3.6 GPA and complete the prereqs. Hope that helped!

I’m curious if anyone has stats for how many veterans USC accepts as transfer admits each year? I’m transitioning out of the Navy right now with a 3.63 GPA from Pennsylvania State University with 55 credits. I have been in the Navy 10 years, and have a really strong military background. I’m wondering how much weight they’ll put on my naval experience.

Hi, do we need to finish the Financial Aid Document Submission? Is that affect the decision?

@candylover132 is correct. It does not matter what school you go to, the GPA and taking correct courses do. There is a very long TTP thread on this forum with a lot of info.

I’m sooo excited/nervous to hear back

Going to a UC or 4 year school will definitely help your application because you can probably get away with a lower GPA. USC is a private school so there’s no reason they would be instructed to prioritize community college students. I know people who have gotten in as transfers with 3.0-3.5 from top 50s.
