2019-2020 USC Transfer

Lol i go to pcc too @woshua

For Marshall applicants, I just to want to give you guys an idea of my stats:

GPA: 3.71
College transferring from: a top 50 university in California
Pre-reqs: Business Calculus (A), Microeconomics (B+), Macroeconomics (AP credit), missing the first writing class but I was told that it is okay to take both English classes at USC if admitted. I took more GEs to compensate. I am missing the first USC writing class because my school does not offer it and our English 101 won’t transfer (even though I took it and completed with an “A-”). I spent my freshman year summer interning so I did not take it at a CC.
Other major classes: Financial Accounting (A), Business Statistics (A), Organizational Behavior (currently taking but most likely it will be an “A”)
GEs: missing the science classes and maybe one or two more GEs depending on how many of my GE classes would transfer
Recommendation letters: 2 quality letters: one from my stats professor and one from my public speaking professor. I got “A” in both classes.
Tips: If you are applying for Marshall, you are strongly encouraged to get “A” in major pre-req classes, especially in Business Calculus. I see most past USC admits got “A” or “A-” in Business Calculus.

For other major pre-reqs such as accounting and business stats, the more “A” or “A-” you earn the better it will reflect on you. Do not stress out if you get a “B” or “B+” in a GE. I hope that I will get accepted and best of luck everyone!

I am a little worried because I see all past Marshall admits finished their first writing class.

@sagaciousforever if you were told its fine to take it at usc then dont worry

@sagaciousforever My counselor literally told me not to take any economics classes but im applying for Marshall

@jj1999 I know. USC has its own Micro and Macro classes and you have to take them at USC. Your traditional Micro and Macro classes won’t transfer. I completed Micro for my current institution, as I must finish it before being admitted by the Business major.

Also, this means I still have to take Micro and Macro again at USC if admitted. I’ve heard that USC’s econ classes are Micro and Macro economics for Business.

@jj1999 What is your stats? Good luck!

@sagaciousforever
School: Currently go to a CC
I have the Trojan Transfer Plan
GPA: 4.0
30 transferrable units (34 if I petition for one of my classes) planned by end of spring
HS GPA: 3.6 UW, somewhere in that ballpark, with a 4.3-4.4 W (graduated w honors but idk if that means much)
Completed GEs: 1 course from category B, 1 course from category C, course from category F from AP score and classes, Category H completed through a 5 on APUSH
GEs in progress: Category A, 2nd class for category B, Category G (the class I’m taking also doubles as a category C class)
Prerequisites: Completed Writing 130 equivalent during the 6 week winter intercession, currently taking a Math 118 equivalent with Business Calculus (but I think my 4 on AP Calc AB should waive the requirement, so I sent it).
Letter of rec: I got a letter of rec from my English teacher, who I had during fall and winter intercession. We got along pretty well and I was one of the best students in his class. Haven’t read it, but I’m sure he vouched for me hard and I’m grateful. Him being a USC alumnus helps as well
No SGR or anything yet, but I sure hope I’m not rejected for some dumb reason

Hopefully everyone applying to Marshall knows this:
Prerequisites for admission to the Marshall School of Business:
Writing 150 (Analytical Writing); MATH 118 (Fundamental Principles of the Calculus); MATH 125 (Calculus I)
may be substituted for MATH 118.
These courses MUST be completed by the end of the spring semester for admission consideration; fall completion
is preferred.
Note: All upper-division business core courses and major electives must be taken at USC. Business courses
completed at another college or university may earn general elective credit.

USC’s writing requirement is critical to admission along with a good calc/business calc grade for Marshall acceptance.

These days with thousands applying, one tiny difference is the thing that puts someone ahead of someone else.

@jj1999 You have a high chance to get in even if you do not have TTP.

Relax a bit now and do not stress! Your 5 in APUSH was very impressive (I honestly think so).

I am a rising junior transfer. In your case, you will most likely get an SGR because most rising sophomore applicants do. One semester of college coursework is not enough for the committee to make a decision so they most likley will want to see a whole year of your performance. This is why more rising sophomores get an SGR than rising juniors.

@blueskies2day I have been in contact with my USC admission counselor since last year. I asked him about the first writing requirement and he confirmed that I could take the two writing classes at USC before graduation if admitted.

I also talked to some past applicants and they said that USC is more lenient in their writing pre-reqs. UCs are stricter on pre-reqs but there are still people got into UCLA and UCB missing a major pre-req such as Calculus 2.

Also, I purposely chose to take “Organizational Behavior”, as it is a lower-division business class.

And the SGRs could come at any time, right?

@Zoe528 SGR could come anytime this month or next month.

Maybe so but I wasn’t even asking the admissions councilor when decisions come out. She, on her own, told me that they come after May when she was explaining to me that if one of my transcripts wasn’t already in then it was ok. I for one hope they come out sooner than May but I just don’t want people losing their heads. USC had there largest applicant pool this year, dropping their regular admit rate from 17% to 11% . If they are behind in processing, it wouldn’t be a surprise to me.

ugh, @sagaciousforever. hopefully it is this month. i’m sick of all of this waiting.

@blueskies2day Here is what he responded:" If you do not have access to Writing 150, I would take a different class that relates to another general educational category. However, you will need to complete that lower level composition class and a midlevel composition class at USC in order to graduate."

I think this means that it is okay to not have Writing 150 completed but it is preferred/recommended by the admission office.

Can someone please chance my daughter
Freshman at ccc
Completed 21 units with 4.0
She is in honors program
16 units in progress
She has taken all rigorous courses related to her major
Volunteering at free clinic
Working part time
Hs gpa 4.1
SAT 1330
And lots of extra curriculum activity during high school including internship

is it a bad sign if i didnt get a winter quarter grade request?

@wanjunhing It could be a good sign if they are confident to admit you without seeing additional grades. It could be a bad sign if they lean towards to reject you. This is just my interpretation and I have no proof of that.

So stay calm there because getting an SGR does not mean anything other than they want to see more grades from you.

Hello Everyone,

I am currently in my second semester of freshman year. I am a biology major. I started at a reputable catholic college for my first semester, but I really did not like the environment, so I transferred to a local 4 year private school (instead of a community college) that I currently commute to (in NJ by the way). It is a small liberal arts school, but it is fairly reputable as well. I finished with a 4.0 my first semester, and I am on track to finish with another 4.0, or something very close to it.

Last semester I took all Bio 1 with Lab, Chem 1 with Lab, Calculus 1 (4 credit course- very rigorous), comparative religion type course, and a first year seminar. This semester I am taking Bio 2 with Lab, Chem 2 with Lab, Biostatistics, Western Civilization history, and English 1. I uploaded my resume onto the common application, which is fairly impressive.

In the beginning, I wasn’t as serious about attending USC; I kind of just applied to apply. However, I have become super interested in attending and it is now my number 1 school by far. From reading many different threads from here, I have been getting pretty anxious. I need some reassurance. What do you guys think? Do I have a good chance? Is there anything I can do to increase my chances of being accepted?

Also, I tried to contact the guidance counselor who was assigned to my area, but I haven’t heard back from her. Its has been a week and 2 days. Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance!

Also, I had 2 letters of recommendation; One from my high school chemistry professor and one from a doctor I shadowed. Given I have never seen them, I would assume they are both strong letters.
