2019-2020 USC Transfer

I’m just gonna assume I got rejected and move on. I thought a 4.0 would at least get me a grade request but I guess not :frowning:

It depends on if you are on the quarter or semester when they may or may not request grades. My daughter got accepted last year as a transfer with a 4.0 from another 4 year east coast univ and they didn’t ask for her second semester freshmen grades. And, she did not hear that she was accepted until July and was accepted as a Transfer Spring Admit. All kinds of scenarios are possible.

This is not an exact science

@symonaidanasa This is quite interesting because I have two friends who also heard their admission results in early July. They applied for incoming junior from a top 50 university in California. They did not get any SGR but they were both admitted to Spring 2019.

I am assuming that there is a pattern. Simply put, for those who hear back in July without an SGR are most likely to be Spring admits. I do not have enough sample size to test this hypothesis, but I am confident that this might a pattern.

But still, most transfer applicants get an acceptance, rejection, or SGR by May 31st.

I find most people who get an SGR heard back again in June and July.

@sagaciousforever makes sense cuz they probably filled all of their fall spots with people who they wanted more.

@candylover132 Yeah, that’s probably why that they would give who they wanted the most Fall enrollment.

I sincerely hope that I will get into Fall! Also, I will most likely hear back in April or May if I get accepted by Fall straight (no SGR).

yeah and I think (and hope) most do!

@candylover132 Analyzing my current standing, I have better recommendation letters and essays than the two Spring admits last year from Pepperdine( They did not have enough time to prepare for good essays. One person even did not submit any recommendation letters).

I am not sure how much two strong recommendation letters from my college professors will help me. I hope that will the determining factor to admit for Fall 2019.

Fight on everyone and hoping for the best!

@sagaciousforever I can’t imagine letters of rec would be a deciding factor as they aren’t even required lol

@DDHH2017 Letters are not required but they are certainly considered if they are good.

My two professors put in so much work in writing letters for me.

@zettasyntax What’s your opinion on the importance of recommendation letters?

@DDHH2017 Good letters certainly tell the admission office who you are and your characteristics. For example, I stayed after every class to ask questions and simply chat with my recommenders (my professors). This shows my curiosity in acquiring new knowledge and I also get to know my professors on a more personal basis.

@sagaciousforever Lol i should have done it then. I practically went to every office hour for all my teachers to get my 4.0. I just thought it didnt matter because it wasnt required

@DDHH2017 I stayed after every single class.

I am usually the only one who stayed after to ask my two recommenders thoughtful questions and to get to know my professors. At the end of each semester, I would write a long (500-700 words) thank you letter via email to each of my professors. I would do the same thing if I get admitted into USC!

I do not think going for office hours just for the sake of getting good grades is the right/healthy intention. Your professors can help you in many future settings. Grades are just for your first job.

@sagaciousforever

I agree, letters of recommendation can help you much even after you graduate. My professors tell me that people who’ve already moved on from CC and went to a 4 year like Cal have actually come back to CC and ask them for recommendation letters. You should use all of your options and don’t be afraid to ask for something. What do you have to lose if they say no eh?

@sagaciousforever Yeah maybe it isnt but yeah I also send thank yous to each of my teachers. (Unless I hate them LOL) Yeah it probably isnt a healthy intention I just wanted to get the highest gpa possible once I decided I wanted to transfer. Plus I want to go to grad school.

Attending office hours for the sake of improving your grades certainly isn’t unhealthy. Imo, yeah, you could have a better motive - but there’s nothing wrong with that. Lasting relationships are important to have but at the end of the day we get to choose which of them we sustain.

@DDHH2017 Hey so for everyone freaking out, on last years transfer thread people got winter grade requests starting in very early April all the way out to April 19th as far as I can tell, so don’t jump to any conclusions!

@YaBoyAndre omg thank you for this

@YaBoyAndre thank you my dude
@90smix we’re in this together :slight_smile:
