Does anyone know if USC prioritize junior transfers over sophomore transfers? Or will it be an equal playing field between the two?
I am a freshman at a cc in Michigan I had a 3.4 gpa in high school (so low due to health issues junior year) and a 1100 sat which I only took once. I will be transferring as a sophomore into either Thornton or Marshall Im unsure yet. I currently have a college gpa of 4.0 and am a part of a national community college honors society but have no other community college ECs. Do I have a chance?
Hi, I am currently a freshman studying business at a Big Ten University. I am interested in transferring into Marshall after getting rejected last year as a high school senior. By the end of my first semester at my current university I will have around 30 hours completed as shown on my unofficial transcript and DARS report. However, some of the hours are based off test scores and AP exams. Will that count towards my USC application? Will those hours count as credits for USC transfer?? I plan to take another course through my university over winter break. I will probably also take 18 credit hours spring semester. Will this be enough hours to transfer as a sophomore?
Also, how do I send direct messages through CC?
Hi everyone,
I’m currently a Journalism Major at a CC doing AA-T. It’s my second year here and right now I have a 3.641, and if my current trajectory continues I will have at least a 3.7 at the end of my fall semester. As for my major, I have a 4.0 when only taking into consideration the classes required for that degree.
I want to transfer to USC Annenberg under as a Public Relations major for fall 2019. Concerning my extra curriculars, I’ve been trying to gain experience related to the field I want to enter. I am currently a reporter for my college’s newspaper, and I have over 30 hours of experience as volunteering with foreign exchange students both on and off campus. In addition, I am currently set to volunteer in the Exhibitor Relations department of a local festival.
I’ve looked at USC’s articulation agreement with my school and I have fulfilled almost all the requirements, with the two classes I have not taken planned for my spring semester.
What would my chances be of acceptance? Is there anything I can do to boost my chances?
Thanks guys
@qanda115 do you mean major requirements or general ed? If those two classes in spring are major requirements, then you might be likely to get a spring grade request. It’s good that your major gpa is that high. If you do really good essays, your app will definitely be considered at the least.
@AndyWarski What if you can get credit for your major requirement through AP testing? The USC Transfer worksheet says that a 4 on Calculus is good enough for Math 118 credit, which is a Marshall prereq, the only one I’d have to finish is the writing which I’ll get done in the winter
@AndyWarski Just general ed! I’m missing Category D (Life Science) and Category G (Citizenship in a Global Era) but as far as I know I’m not missing any major requirements. However, in the Transfer Admission Guidelines for Annenberg, it says that transfer students must complete no more than 64 transferrable units. I will have more than that by the time I graduate community college, just because of AP classes I took in high school. Would that affect my application?
Hello again everybody! I learned a lot on last year’s thread and it’s finally time for me to apply. Here are my stats:
1st Choice Major: Political Science
2nd Choice Major: International Relations
Current School: College of Southern Nevada
HS GPA: 2.3 (I dropped out and received a GED)
SAT/ACT Score: None
College GPA: 4.00 (Won’t be that much longer… Will probably be around a 3.85-3.90)
Major GPA: 4.00
Credits: Will have 48 completed by the time I apply. Transferring as a junior.
Major Pre-reqs: Done by the end of the fall.
GEs Completed: 6/8 by the end of the fall.
EC: Senator in the Student Government, Phi Theta Kappa, Central Committee member with the political party I identify with, and have a lot of work experience on campaigns.
Awards: President’s List twice and also received a scholarship from the school after my first semester.
Also Applying to: Cornell, UCB, UCLA, Claremont McKenna College, Pitzer College, UVA, UC Merced, and UNLV.
I am a first generation, nontraditional, latino student. I am likely ending this semester with two fresh Bs (hoping to bring at least one back up to an A). This semester is my hardest class wise and it doesn’t help that I was homeless for most of September which added to my stress and contributed to my grades slipping. I am hoping that I can bust out some amazing essays to balance out the dip in my GPA this semester. I will still remain above that 3.7 mark so I am hoping it won’t be much of a concern!
@qanda115 I’m a Viterbi transfer and had done more than 64 units total. My experience is they just cut your transferred units at 64. I got accepted, so I’d assume it wouldn’t hurt your chances. Also, if there’s a class like Calc 3 (or other classes that require several other classes to reach), you will get the credit of progress from it even if it’s not included in your transferred units. It just wouldn’t add on as additional earned units, you’d still be on record for taking the class and can move onto the next…so long as it is treated as equivalent to a USC course.
@vegastransfer Oooh, you sound so much like me. I didn’t have any kind of HS GPA though. It was actually quite embarrassing. I went to go get HS transcripts to see if I would have some kind grade history for the 3 months I was in high school, but nope. I thought my grades on the semester report card would show up in my transcript, but I guess I never actually earned any credits. Anyway, I wouldn’t stress out too much about a B or two. If anything, my academic was a bit worse the second time I applied to USC - and that was when I got accepted I’m happy to see that you have lots of alternate schools. That’s a mistake I made the first time when I attempted to transfer; I had a slim selection of backups. Good luck! I definitely want to stick around and see what happens
@qanda115 I had like 100 units when I transferred to USC They do just cap you at 64 units and the other 64 required of your degree must be earned at USC.
Since I already go to a 4-year private college, will it be more difficult to transfer to USC? Do they want more students from community colleges?
No not at all …four or two year = all fair game to get in.
@winter21 The stats say that 50% of transfers accepted come from ccc. So their might be a little bias towards them.
@zettasyntax Thank you for answering! Just another question; do you know how one might go about double majoring after transferring to USC? I was thinking of maybe doing Journalism in addition to Public Relations if I managed to get in.
Many many students double major, if in same school (like Annenberg for those majors) and you are in there already, you just declare a second major with your advisor. Easy peezy.
Reposting cause I just need answers
I am currently a freshman at Pasadena City College with TTP, applying for Marshall. I am taking 17 units this semester (14 transferable). If there is anyone here who has transferred to USC after 1 year at CC, please let me know, because I have questions. I have already done 2 of my categories with AP credit (Calc AB and US History or Euro), but I still need to take a math class. Here is my current schedule.
English 1A (messed up by not sending Lang score)
College 1
Philosophy 1 (Category B)
Business 14A (Category F)
Sociology 1 (Category C)
English 1B is the writing requirement for USC, so will it affect my chances if I complete it in the winter intercession rather than now?
Also, one of the requirements for Marshall is Business 14B, which is equivalent to Math 118, but the transfer worksheet to Marshall says that a 4 or 5 on the AP Calc exam can get credit for Math 118. Do I need to send my AP Score to USC? Thanks!

You can complete English 1B in the spring semester after you’ve already submitted your application. It just has to be completed before the 19’ fall semester. Doesn’t have to be Winter.

Yes, you would send your AP scores in and that would count as credit for Math 118.
@qanda115 ^Yup. If the major is in the same school, it’s really simple to do. Otherwise, the school that houses the other major will have some type of process before you can officially declare the major. Typically, they just want to see that you don’t completely bomb their courses and maintain a certain grade point average Minors are where you can see some really interesting combos. I remember this Viterbi girl that minored in dance and the Viterbi website even did a story about her because it was such a unique combo
@zettasyntax Thank you for the words of encouragement! I have definitely followed your posts on these threads over the past few years You have certainly been helpful to many of us. I needed to give myself plenty of school choices for peace of mind lol.
