2019 Tulane EA/SCEA Decision Thread

@sonofwalt‌

That is so unusual that your school doesn’t report GPA. In any case, with a 32 ACT and an estimated 3.75 UW GPA, I would think you would get offered something. Those are strong stats.

I noticed you are looking at cinema/media for a major. There has been a lot of press about New Orleans as “Hollywood South”, which you can easily look up if you have not seen it already. A very recent article said that now there are actually more movie/TV productions in NOLA than either LA or NYC. That surprised me. Not sure how they are counting things like soaps, and regular productions like sitcoms, or where those are shot for that matter. But in any case it certainly continues to demonstrate that Louisiana in general and NOLA in particular are hot for this field.

My son is not a cinema/media major but he did sign on with a casting agency and has been able to be an extra in a few shows when schedule permits :slight_smile: He was supposed to do a day filming for NCIS New Orleans but they changed the shooting day and it conflicted with his classes so he didn’t go. There are casting calls daily for all kinds of fun things.

That’s why I applied! I wrote my Why Tulane? about NOLA’s rise in the media/cinema scene! It is really a great area to be in right now. (I am also applying to schools in LA/NYC, however) Alot of succesful locals who had moved to LA or NYC to follow their careers in hot beds are now returning back home and developing the scene in NOLA.

My school doesn’t report GPA/class rank for a number of reasons. But it is super competitive and it doesn’t really matter because they still can calculate one with my transcript.

I’m really worried because I have not heard back yet and applied 2 weeks ago plus a girl from my school has already gotten accepted, but I have pretty strong stats. I thought Tulane was a match for me but now I’m thinking maybe it’s not. Could I be deferred/denied with a 3.91 UW GPA, 35/1000 rank, 32 ACT, and alright EC’s?

@LBlumberg‌ socal :)

Thanks, Zebrarunner. My D submitted arts supplements for music & dance, and I had a feeling that it may have slowed the review process down. And so we wait…

Update: Honors program and Presidential scholarship! Posted my stats a ways back. Good luck to those still waiting!

Thanks everyone for information about Tulane. It was really helpful during the process.

has anyone in the Bay Area (CA) specifically the peninsula heard back yeT?

Has anyone in Florida, specifically west coast heard back yet?

@whoahwhoah789 I am from the Bay Area and I received my acceptance last Monday, on November 17th. My application was marked complete on or around October 30th. Another student at my school applied early action and he still has not received a decision.

FYI, last year my D applied SCEA and heard in early October. A classmate who also applied SCEA at the same time didn’t hear until December. They are both very happy freshman at Tulane. Good luck to all who are waiting to hear.

Have any SCEA applicants from PA heard back yet? My application has been complete since September… starting to get very worried.

If we haven’t gotten a decision yet does that mean we have less of a chance of getting a good amount of merit $ and getting accepted at all?

Last year Tulane accepted 34% of the 18,724 EA applicants. I think that there is still plenty of opportunity to get accepted with merit $$. It takes a lot of time to get through almost 19,000 applications!!
