They prefer semester grades anyway, so hopefully you can get that fixed.

@kaileemet I know it sucks to hear this but a lot of times really over-qualified students get deferred from Tulane because they know that it’s a safety school for so many very smart kids. I can’t really see any other reason why you’d be deferred other than that and the fact that you applied so late.

@ms2222

No question that happens a lot, but usually those applicants don’t do the Why Tulane essay and/or show no other interest by visiting campus and/or attending info sessions. Not saying that still isn’t what happened here, just wouldn’t seem to be the usual situation. Also, and not being derogatory towards @kaileemet, but usually those people have super high GPA’s and class rank also. That is not the case here. But like I said, who knows, except for the admissions officer.

So I hadn’t been checking Gibson very often, and last Saturday I checked it and found out I was accepted! Since then, I’ve been anxiously checking the mail each day, waiting for my admissions letter to come, and it hasn’t yet. I’ve gotten three emails from Tulane, all asking if I will be enrolling or not, and asking what extra information I might need to help me in my decision. The first time I kinda brushed it off and assumed the letter was still on the way, but now I’m a bit worried. Since I have no idea when my Gibson status changed, I also don’t know when the decision was actually made and the letter was sent. My decision largely depends on potential scholarships, so should I try to contact admissions and try to find out what the possible holdup is?

just remember grades aren’t the only important thing

@kaileemet --Ordinarily I’d suggest to someone in your situation that it would be appropriate to ask your guidance counselor to telephone or email Tulane to express surprise at your deferral, to emphasize your continuing interest, and to ask if there are any other materials you might submit that would strengthen your application. But since you said your guidance counselor doesn’t know you (and that her grammar isn’t too hot either), is there ANOTHER school official you could ask to advocate for you instead (e.g., head of guidance, principal, vice principal, etc.)?

As fallenchemist pointed out, none of us here on CC get to see what the admission officials see, but it does seem that you’re a strong candidate for Tulane, so it might be worthwhile to find someone at your high school who will contact the university on your behalf.

Good luck!

@Bobbeh I would contact them on Wednesday. If they accepted you on Friday your letter will arrive by then.

@Bobbeh

You very well might have just been accepted Friday or Saturday, so not having the letter yet could be perfectly understandable. Give it a few more days. If you don’t have the letter by Thursday’s mail, then you might want to consider calling them Friday. Although you really should give it a full week at least. It would be more “professional” to wait until Saturday’s mail and then if still not there, call them Monday and ask them to resend.

@maxamus15 congratulations on your acceptance! Were you accepted today? I’m still waiting on a decision.

@Ruggy7 Thank you! I just checked today but I’m not sure when it was posted!

@kaileemet - My apologies if someone else has already mentioned this, but it’s possible that your file wasn’t complete in time, given that you applied so late. Your strong record would be an argument for deferring you rather than rejecting you under those circumstances. It’s just a thought! Best of luck on the rest of this process and with the other schools you’re applying to!

@Bobbeh My D was accepted Wednesday and received the letter today; it was postmarked Thursday.

@Sally_Rubenstone: thank you for the advice! A lot of people have advised me to talk to the school about it, so I’m starting to think that’d be a good course of action to take. However, I also don’t want to seem pushy or whiny about their decision? I’m worried about leaving a bad impression. Should I just wait until my second semester grades come out (end of January) and send them in with a note emphasizing my continued interest in the school?
I’d like to give a big thank you to everyone for all of the advice. It’s helped me feel less pessimistic about my prospects with other schools that I’m hearing from in the next few days. Good luck and congratulations to other Seniors waiting for a decision or who have been admitted!

Thanks for the advice everyone. I’ll give it until at least this Friday, if not Monday.

My D was accepted today! We are so excited. This has been her top choice for years.

has anyone from northern California gotten a decision yet?

By this time some people from all regions have heard. There is no way any state/area hasn’t had some decisions this close to the deadline.

I’m from Seattle, Washington. 10+ kids applied from my school and none have gotten a response. All have really strong stats, so I do wonder if the regional admissions rep has gotten back to anyone in this area of the world …

I haven’t seen anyone from Georgia get any decision. Am I mistaken or are we really being forced to wait?
