*** 2020-2021 Medical Applicants and Their Parents

I’ll admit I hope they do forgive 10K in student loan debt for each student who has it (not sure how I’d feel about parent loans). There are so many in our school and across PA that such a gift would help. Too many kids are hindered by finances. Sometimes it may be the parent’s fault, but I don’t blame the kids for that any more than I blame them if their parents spend the food money at the bar. If the kid can do better in life, I want them to have a chance to do so. It’s better for us as a society if more kids can move up from the trenches. Welfare costs more.

I would never support any government loan waivers for anything. Better to work on fix the system than temporary Band-Aids.

Congratulations to your S!!

DS got A from oldest medical school in the country but home school is still his top choice unless he gets merit.

DS is done with application cycle. He will be attending UPenn with scholarship. In the end, he did 11 interviews, got 5 acceptances, 4 Waitlist and 2Rs. He got 3 out of 5 he targeted and satisfied with the results and not pursuing waitlist. Thanks for all the senior parents who gave all the advice and support during the journey. Now I need to move to Residency threads :grinning:

My D finished her cycle too. She has chosen to stay in our home state :slightly_smiling_face: and will be attending the UMSOM in Baltimore. She was given a very generous merit scholarship which definitely helped in her decision. She had applied to 16 schools, interviewed at 6, accepted at 5 and waitlisted at 1. Rejected from all the rest :joy: All the advice we have received on this forum has been tremendously helpful. Thanks to all who have shared their wisdom. It definitely made this whole process alot easier and dare I say less stressful :slightly_smiling_face:

I wanted to check in since so many here have been helpful during the process (esp. @WayOutWestMom and @Creekland).

D had a very successful admissions cycle, which included some surprise acceptances that gave her a great range of schools to choose from. She ultimately chose UIC’s School of Medicine (Chicago campus), which had been her top choice all along and became financially competitive with NYU thanks to a modest scholarship, lower cost-of-living in Chicago, and the benefits of having lots of family nearby. She was accepted into the Global Scholars program, as well, which is very much in keeping with both her past experience and plans for the future.

She’s found an apartment and a roommate to share it with and is looking forward to summer moving and taking a workshop as a first step for a concurrent MPH program she is considering.

Congratulations to @UMD2021_2023 's daughter and to @EllieMom’s daughter on their successful cycle.

Sounds like both young women have found a school where they fit.

Wishing them both much success!

@ grtd2010 Why the need to apply to a throw-way school each cycle? Could you expound on that? TIA!

IMO, the idea for a throw-away school is to get one’s application in queue for verification. One can add to the list later during or after verification.
