@“Mezzo’sMama” usually starts a thread to collect when and where a student will have live auditions. I don’t think she is on the board anymore. Is it worthwhile to continue the tradition? Why would one want to do so? We met some families from this board at our auditions as we knew they were there on the same dates as us, and it was so nice to put a face to the name! It is also useful to find someone who has auditioned before you to ask about protocol (is there a theory test? do you have a piano assessment? What is a good hotel nearby? etc…) Perhaps it can be less formal and evolve without a moderator. People can voluntarily record Instrument/voice type, degree desired, and date of audition for each school at which one is granted an audition. If the thread ONLY records auditions, schools and dates (NO comments or sidebars) it might be searchable and not too unwieldy. Of course, anyone who wants to organize would be welcome to do so. Seems several of you have had auditions already, so it might be worthwhile to start the thread. Each post might look like this:
SCREEN NAME
Instrument/Voice Type Degree (BA,BM,MM,DMA,…) School Date of Audition
Thoughts? Any takers to organize? Any interest? Easier to establish a template before the flurry of activity that will happen VERY soon!
In the past, the MT forum did this without an “administrator” (maybe they still do and someone can pop over and check it out). It was nice that Mezzomama did this but it doesn’t appear that she will this year.
If I recall correctly, the MT parents would simply cut and paste the list above to a new post and then add their info in a color so people could see the new info quickly. The color would be updated by the next poster so only new info was in color. It was done alphabetically by screen name. For example (from email above) cut and paste and add…except I don’t know how to do colors…maybe someone can give instructions on that…or not.
SCREEN NAME
Instrument/Voice Type Degree (BA,BM,MM,DMA,…) School Date of Audition
ZScreen Name
Mezzo Voice BM
Timbuktu 2/10
Juillard 3/05
Curtis 3/12
Note dates do not need to be provided if uncomfortable. Whatever is comfortable.
AND no sidebars or separate questions. It’s best to instruct people to start a separate thread when that inevitably happens.
Anywho…there’s my 2 cents. Any brave souls out there want to start it out? It does pay it forward.
I did take a quick peek at the MT forum…and it seems they do their pre-screen thread now as more a free forum…not a simple list. So no color changes…but good info shared.
It’s really up to the parents of this class. You can just start below…or start a new thread…however you would like to start communicating on pre-screen results.
@khill87 you may be the right person to get it going!
I’ll handle the prescreen and acceptance threads this year if no one else wants to. I’m new-ish but can learn.
Thanks to @glassharmonica for cleary outlining the font color trick on the Community and Forum Issues board! I understand we’re supposed to be very sparing in our use of color.
Anybody who is curious, this is what was explained:
I don’t think you can edit someone else’s posts. People used to pm mezzosmama and she would collect the daily additions posting an update every few days, using color so it was easy to see additions.
Apologies, @songbirdmama. I was unclear. I meant edit my own post. I have an older one with a typo. I thought maybe there was a button I was missing, but I can see now there is only a limited edit window for each new post.
I’ll go ahead and start a new prescreen thread. Thank you for getting us talking about it.
I hope to post too, with D’s permission, once she 1. Finishes her prescreens and 2. Hopefully hears positive things! She is applying for MM in soprano voice/opera.
** Don’t scroll down the list far enough - moved to the “official” pre-screen 2020 thread!!
So I’m not sure if this is still the “draft” post & the first audition is actually Dec 2019 but I’ll start again (and this can be moved to the not-draft)…

Has anyone started a summerstock audition thread? I’m not a musical theater parent, but I’m a local in Falmouth, season ticket holder for years, and College Light Opera there is an amazing opportunity to do nine shows in a summer. Here’s the link to the audition page (all due Feb 1). If anyone knows of a summer program audition page, can they put it there? As far as I know, the only absolute is that the person MUST be 18 by the time they start up in June, because they all live together in a huge mansion near the water in Falmouth.
