Acceptance Thread Class of 2024

Apologies if this thread already exists—I looked but didn’t see anything. We’ve gotten two acceptances over the weekend and I thought that there were probably others! Also, it may help future pursuers of music degrees understand the timing involved. So, if you’ve gotten an acceptance already, please do tell! Please note your (or your kid’s) instrument or voice part, college where accepted, how you auditioned (prescreen? Live? Video?) and date, and when you found out (and via what channels) you were accepted, and if you found out about scholarships yet.

D20 (mezzo soprano) auditioned live on 11/16/19 at Oklahoma City University (no prescreens) for vocal performance and music theatre BMs. Accepted for vocal performance only at OKCU on 12/13 via email (which went to spam—only knew to check there because fellow CC posters gave us the tip, and even then it didn’t show up until 12/15 for some reason). Scholarship offer included. This is D20’s top choice as of now.

Baylor University school of music—auditioned live on 12/06/19 for vocal performance. Accepted for vocal performance BM—letter dated 12/13/19 arrived 12/16/19. May have also been notified via goBAYLOR account (had not checked yet). No scholarship offer as of yet. Apparently those come in the spring.

Best wishes to all!

Can you edit title to include 2022 MM? Hoping D will have one of those eventually! Fingers crossed. Or we could start a separate MM thread.

Sure! I’ll try to figure that out! (Newbie here…)

MM Class of 2022 posts welcome as well! Sorry—can’t figure out how to edit title of post!

Congratulations to your daughter, @OrangeJacket ! I bet it feels great to have options so soon!

I have a super newbie question - once you have an acceptance, how long do you have to decide whether to enroll or decline? Is there a standard date across schools or is that too much to hope?

@stringbird - you have until May 1st to decide (unless you apply ED, which I don’t know if that’s even an option for music majors). If you look at last year’s thread, there were a few of us angsting through the end of April.

@OrangeJacket - you may want to coordinate this thread (or a new one starting around Jan 1) with @tableforsix. She is doing the prescreen thread and did say that she would start an Acceptance one in early January. There is an “old format” that has been used…and typically scholarship info was done separately (if at all). The format is similar to the pre-screen one and used to make it easy to search for next year.

Scholarship info is always a touchy subject on here. I have no issue with it as I think it can be useful. However others have pointed out that it’s not possible to confirm the info and can lead to hard feelings and confusion…how did someone get such a large scholarship and not me? It can devalue an excellent acceptance (with no real reason for that as we don’t always understand why scholarships are given…it’s not always simply talent). Still I’m not against a scholarship thread. One was done last year and I felt it was very helpful. But over the years I have seen a few scholarships that raised my eyebrows (made me suspicious) about accuracy. I know that there are many people that would share this info but others may share only general info for privacy reasons…and even that can be useful.

In the end, this is YOUR class info…not mine…but I just thought I would mention @tableforsix had posted that she would start an acceptance thread soon. Maybe you could do the scholarship thread with the above info in mind? You may want to check what was done last year (or maybe it was the year prior)…as I thought that one worked well.

And one other thought…I know the MT thread does Acceptance/Decision stories so you could change this into something more like that…honestly any info is good and from the numbers people do like to read stories (besides just data) when people are willing to share!!

Thanks for starting this regardless how it all works out!

@stringbird : Colleges have until March 31st to send out acceptances. You have the following 30 days of April to compare scholarships, and try to get more, and make a decision until you respond - May 1st.

Thanks @Lendlees and @gram22 ! It’s good that you don’t have to decide on your early admits while still waiting on others.

Thanks for the comments, bridgenail. I’m a newbie here and can’t quite initiate PMs yet (to my knowledge)! Just trying to “pay it forward” for future folks, but can also understand all the thread etiquette stuff. I think I might just sit back and not initiate any more threads! (I’m not saying this because my feelings are hurt, btw. I’m a college professor who has just wrapped up the semester. I haven’t been privy to all the goings on here in the past few months because I’ve been too busy to do much online. Facebook is seeing me return also after a long absence!) A lot of our prospective music or theatre major friends are already getting news about acceptances and scholarships and the MT board is also alive with acceptance activity! Maybe if we don’t say amount of scholarships that would be okay? I think it’s helpful to know when schools make these offers–i.e. immediately upon acceptance or at some later date after all auditions are over. I realize there may be a different protocol here in this forum. D20 has “cross applied” in BM and BFA in a few places so it muddies things a bit. She doesn’t fit into just one forum!

@OrangeJacket “I think it’s helpful to know when schools make these offers–i.e. immediately upon acceptance or at some later date after all auditions are over” In our experience (D16 BM in music, VP), it was a mixed bag: Some came with scholarship offers and some acceptances preceded financials, requiring us to wait for financial awards/aid. The whole shebang took a long time. Nearly up until May 1.

@OrangeJacket no problem. I understood the intent and enthusiasm which makes it hard to say anything. But I have faith people understand. Feel free to start threads. The only traditional threads are pre-screen and acceptances. The journey thread is now popular but very open to anything.

Btw my D auditioned for VP, MT and one acting program. She got acceptances in all areas. Her decision was based on enthusiasm and money. She did a BS in VP with theater studies too and an MM. She now does regional operas but also some classic MT and a lot of commercial/industrial gigs too. She is very happy with the variety after the heavy emphasis on music in school. Good luck!

Good news, S got into Berklee today. Such a relief, hoping others get good news today as well.

S hasn’t applied to as many schools as others and is already taking a gap year so this acceptance was especially welcomed. He has an option now, Whew.

S got Berklee acceptance yesterday and Loyola New Orleans with scholarship today. The fun is starting lol.

S got Berklee… his only application!
Audition piano as his instrument but want to do film scoring or music production.

Anyone requested the year abroad at Valencia campus Spain? Was told that Decision only end of March for Spain. Would be interested if anyone has any feedback.

mindyou—— Congratulations!!! I know many musicians at Berklee (last 5 years) but only one singer did Valencia in his 1st year. I heard that he really enjoyed. I don’t know his major. Most of Berklee musicians I know are instrumentalists and I think that many of them are doing “performance” with / without another major (double major). Some are doing composition, music production & engineering, music business… You might want to ask Berklee if your son’s intended major(s) may be better to start at Boston Campus or it wouldn’t matter. Spain would be very, very nice.

When my son was accepted to Berklee last year, I don’t think that he was given an option to start at Valencia campus. His intended major was “performance”.

So many people getting good news. Congrats, everyone! It’s so exciting to see the acceptances start to roll in - there is a light at the end of the tunnel!

Some really fantastic news here! I love seeing everyone’s hard work rewarded. Well earned.

@OrangeJacket and I corresponded and I’m going to go ahead and start a formal new acceptance thread. I’ll get to that after Christmas.

Acceptance thread (the sequel) up and running. Please PM me your info or post on that thread. I know a few have mentioned early acceptances but I’d rather start from scratch to avoid omissions or errors.
