2020 ED Acceptance Rate of 40% (up from 36%)

Amherst also received 6% fewer ED apps than last year.

They received fewer but took more, I guess.

This is interesting: “the number of applicants choosing to submit ACT test scores increased significantly, surpassing the number of students submitting SAT scores for the first time.”

Many schools, including Amherst, accept the ACT in place of not only the SAT I but also the two SAT Subject scores as well. This gives a strong incentive for some applicants to submit only their ACT scores.

@allanz1844 Why do I find it interesting? More students take the act than the sat, period, and that’s not new. I find it interesting because it could suggest that Amherst is pulling more from areas of the country where the act is more popular, or that the sat requirement of also taking subject tests has pushed kids away from it.

Your point isn’t applicable here, this batch of early decision kids would never have taken the new sat. If my info is up to date, that is.

These kids are presumably smart enough to know that all of their sat testing would be on the old sat. Unlike some people…

She wasn’t admitted ed.

Seniors who got admitted ed this year completed their testing last year in the fall at the latest so whatever tutoring places are telling kids to do is not relevant to them. The new sat isn’t even given until, I think, March of this year.

As you surely know, acceptances don’t come with explanations and neither do rejections.

@allanz1844 – What’s with the attitude? Go back to the threads for your son’s “top ranked school”. @OHmomof2 doesn’t need me to defend her (as she is quite capable of doing so herself), but where are your manners?

@allanz1844 you came into this thread (indeed, into CC as it was your second post ever) with:

What’s your purpose in this thread? Do you have a comment about the ED results posted by the OP? You appear to have come in mainly to say something rude to me personally but if you had some point to make about Amherst’s ED results, please make it.

As to kids talking about how they know they got admitted, well that’s just dumb kids who think they know things they don’t. Maybe an athlete knows from a coach that they got the early read or whatever, that’s about it. It sure isn’t something I would discuss with a rude stranger on a web forum.

Apology accepted

I will have to ask D if she and her friends have ever discussed it. I went to a somewhat similarly selective school and cannot recall ever having such a discussion.

But even if we did have them we’d only be guessing. It would be like the “Chance Me” threads here, just after the fact.

I know why I think D made a great applicant but clearly some colleges saw that too and some didn’t and I’ll never know why. Really, no one does except that small handful of kids who FOIA’ed their admissions records at Stanford last year.

Calling something “interesting,” now that’s crossing the line.

Sure. Because those students HAVE TO TAKE THE NEW TEST. Any student accepted to Amherst ED took the old one.
