I think its a top public school in a pretty competitive North Jersey and NYC area.
Are you guys getting email form the financial aid Office of Notre Dame. For example, Notre Dame Financial Aid 101: “Sticker Price” Versus What You Will Pay (Net Price)
@DAVE437 Yea, I just want the results
@DAVE437 I also got that email, even though I’ve already finished my financial aid information.
@XAtlas Well that will certainly make things easier to understand regarding a “lower” GPA, which really doesn’t even seem bad in the first place. As long as the rigor and EC’s are there, I don’t think it’s going to come down to having a few B’s haha.
Hi all, noticed that Notre Dame has a pretty low international student percentage (approx. 7% last time I checked). Is there a reason for this??
@annavoltair I would guess about 7% of applicants are international, and they are just trying to keep things proportional. I don’t think they have something against internationals, if that’s your concern.
@annavoltair a lot of international students pick school by location. Notre Dame is kind of like in the middle of nowhere (I could be wrong…). Most of the international students especially Asian students love big city like L.A. Boston or NYC or Philadelphia. Also, Notre Dame has strong religion affiliation so that’s another main factor.
@annavoltair Furthermore, international students are usually wealthy because they usually have to pay full tuition. So most students in other countries would go to universities within their own countries.
And 7% is not particularly low, a lot of international students actually go more for graduate schools than undergraduate schools anyway.
@IvyHopeful98 @XAtlas Yeah, but why would they send financial aid information regarding tuition price of Note Dame if we haven’t got our decision yet. And @IvyHopeful98 how does it look like to get majority A’s and some B’s at a High school that is #1 Catholic high school in the California and #2 in the nation
@DAVE437 I don’t understand it either actually. In my brain, it makes no sense why we need to send all of our financials to a bunch of colleges when we will only end up at one. They send us this stuff now though so that if/when we are accepted, financial aid won’t be too far behind.
Im a fellow student too, so I can’t give a definitive answer, but I would imagine that’s fine. Obviously, no B’s is preferable, but being at such a good school would, in my opinion, help greatly. How many B’s are we talking though?
A significant amount rather not say
@DAVE437 Alright, that might not be too good. How has your course rigor been? And posting your SAT would be helpful too. If you don’t want to be exact, maybe create a range that you fall in (if you are trying to maintain anonymity).
@DAVE437 I wouldn’t worry about it; your application is in, and Notre Dame (I believe) will consider your grades in the context of the strength and rigor of your school. One of the most salient goals of admissions is to accept and matriculate the most intellectually vibrant students, who may or may not have earned GPAs of 4.0 along the way.
@DAVE437 Just to be clear, I agree with what @aBitOfLuck is saying. If the course rigor is on par with the strength of the school, then you should be fine. Just like me worrying about my SAT is pointless because it’s one small part of my application, worrying about your GPA follows the same idea.
looking at Notre Dame’s admission stats it looks like they place an emphasis on class rank.
We also got the financial aid email this week, it looks like ND may be out of reach financially
@Mysonsdad That’s a shame; for all the bluster given to financial aid programs, they seem to fall short quite often.
We ran the NPC, several times. We took my oldest out of college for the youngest’s sophomore through senior years, bumped up the household income in anticipation of a couple good years compared to 2014, and yikes, no, ND is not affordable for us.
Just got denied from Vandy ED2. Do I have any chance with a 31 ACT 4.0 UW GPA and 36 on the ACT writing
@Midwest67 I’m sorry to hear that. ND is an awesome school, and they say they meet 100% of whatever families need to be able to attend. Maybe come April, if your kid has been accepted, the money they’d give will surprise you.
@sgallagher23 Let me start by saying there is way more to an application that just ACT and GPA. ND places emphasis on rank, rigor, EC’s and leadership, among other things. That being said, your ACT is below the mid 50% of students, and ND doesn’t consider ACT writing (or SAT writing), where it seems like you shine. Now, there obviously have to be people that make up the bottom 25%, and having good EC’s/Leadership/Rigor/Rank would make a huge difference. I also have no idea how impressive your 4.0 is, considering I don’t know what kinds of classes you’ve taken, haha. We have kids at my school with 4.0’s because they’ve played it safe by taking easy classes, whereas (not to brag, just offer comparison), I will have taken 8 AP’s amongst a slew of honors by year’s end, and I currently have a 4.0. If it offers you any solace, I think that Vandy is a bit more selective than ND.
