@amomoffour have they given a specific date yet? I think the student will get an email a few weeks out with the exact date and time-
@lucyvanpelt Only saying end of February/early March currently.
Saying now before March 1st, or “in the next couple of weeks”
We received an email (as a response to our inquiry about Schreyer decision release) and they responded as follows: “….Decisions will be released sometime around mid-February. You will receive an email giving you the exact date and time of the release…”

schreyer decisions coming out of Feb 19th at 3:30pm EST ! Received an email today
Schreyer decisions are apparently also having a waitlist option new this year.
“Regarding the waitlist. Invitations to the waitlist will be posted on shc.psu.edu/admissions/decision. Invited students will need to opt in on the same website. The deadline for opting in is Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Only students who opt in by the deadline will be considered for an offer of admission. Our waitlist will not be ranked. We will send final decisions to wait-listed students no later than Friday, May 17, 2019. Invited students will have one week from the date the offer of admission is made to accept the offer of admission.”
^ confirming that PSU is totally flabbergasted by yield this year.
@MYOS1634 I was thinking this might be due to the offers to like 600 for 300 spots, it’s possible they want to make sure they fill those spots if those offered decline.
@amomoffour I think the overall Admissions kerfuffle (kind word) is flowing down to Schreyer admissions. The processes are totally different, but the yield issues may be playing havoc with Schreyer admissions. They probably have no predictive yield.
Honestly, if you are a Schreyer kid and get waitlisted, I wouldn’t take that as a no … I would take it as a “we have no clue what our yield will be and you may get lucky”.
But Schreyer-level applicants will likely have better offers by April, so that when wait list decisions arrive by May 17 they’ll have moved on.
@lucyvanpelt true, once they offer Schreyer, then more academic money comes from other schools and students don’t go anyway. It was my sons lowest offer of scholarship w/Schreyer, but we get tuition break so it made it ideal. just waiting on the next sons results. He did get a small scholarship already. Any provost scholarships out there?
@MYOS1634 totally agree. What will probably happen is that kids who want to go to Penn State - and have committed - regardless of Schreyer - will be the ones filling those late chairs. There are always kids that are locked into Penn State and do the SHC application just for kicks. They will probably be the late comers to the party if yield is down. And honestly, many of those kids will be successful - I’ve seen some great kids not get SHC offers in the past that would be great.
@MYOS1634 The only thing I would add, is the essays this year were brutal. No way you could write fluff and not do research. Out of three years of kids applying to Schreyer, by far the most difficult essays.
Schreyer makes all it’s own rules – so while they aren’t influenced directly by the mess in general admissions, they have the same problem. If you have no data about Common App yield, in addition to an unusually competitive pool, how on earth can you predict how many offers should go out? You don’t want a repeat of the epic fail of over enrollment. You can’t afford --literally — to underenroll. So, waitlist.
I imagine any Schreyer waitlist student would want to accept any other honors offer, rather than wait around.
Schreyer’s decisions will be posted this Tuesday at 3:30 PM. How many applicants, like us, have not yet received an admissions decision from UP? Schreyer’s email last week to students and parents states:
“Your student must have an offer of admission from Penn State University in order to receive a decision from the Schreyer Honors College. If your student does not currently have an offer from Penn State University, we encourage your student to visit their MyPennState account to determine their application status with the University.”
D’s application still “under review” in MyPennState… not looking good ?
Did anyone else get a scholarship already and/or see Paterno Scholarship?
good luck to everyone waiting!
