today I received a call from Chicago but I was not able to pick it up because it was on my home phone and I thought it was a spam call. The number ended in 5031, can anyone confirm or deny this was UChicago.
Could it be Antar, Christina (773)702-5031, Assistant Director, Project Management, ARD Communications?
@Hopharv; Hi, just thought I would respond to this inquiry. I did a quick google search and the call number 773-702-5301 is associated with the University of Chicago. Specifically the UCMC Admissions Services (The University of Chicago Medical Center, Admissions Services). Even more specifically: Mia London, the Manager of “Revenue Cycle Management.”
I hope this helps!
@Hopharv did they leave a message or VM by any chance? People who want to talk to you will typically do that.
I think it was a scam lol, the middle numbers don’t match, got my hopes up for no reason.
I was waitlisted at UChicago and am currently working on my LOCI (I’m planning on sending it in today). I was waiting to consider my other offers before continuing to pursue UChicago. Will waiting this long to send a LOCI damage my chances of getting in? Obviously I can’t go back and send it earlier but I’m wondering if it’s worth it to try (it’s not yet May 1 though so I feel like it shouldn’t be a big deal?). My friend from my school just got in off the waitlist this morning.
^^^ would be really helpful if someone could elaborate on that as I have the same concerns. I sent my LOCI on the 11th and I’m worried it may have been a little later than others.
@thefriendlyswede @soupsnakes None of us are working in the Admission Office and so no one can address your concern. Suffice to say that the AO has been pulling students off WL way earlier than the previous 5 or 7 years (and seemingly in larger numbers). Their decision does catch everyone off guard.
But this is extraordinary time. You have to assume the AO is very sophisticated and they have run models to know that given the pandemics this year, yield and summer melt would be quite different from previous years. So they react proactively by starting to call students off WL earlier than usual.
The bottom line still remains for you guys: is UChicago still the school you want to enroll for the next 4 years? If the answer is no or even not sure, maybe you should wait to hear from your first choice. If the answer is a strong definitive yes, then send in your LOCI ASAP. They can’t call you off WL if you are not interested.
@milhojas Congrats! May I know if you sent your LOCI directly to your regional AO or did you upload it to the portal?
I just got in off the waitlist today. Much like the user lycheejellys I received a call asking if I were still interested in The University of Chicago. I said that I was and today (they called me yesterday) they moved me off the waitlist. Since I know a lot have been asking this, I am a domestic student.
@afd221 - Congratulations! Great job!!!
@milhojas congrats! Did you also receive a call or any other form of communication asking if you would commit? Or just the email?
@lycheejellys - have they removed you off the WL like @afd221 already?
My DS also got off the waitlist on Apr 18. He sent the LOCI to the regional OA on Apr 7 and OA replied back to him 3 days ago. AO call him to confirm the admission on Friday. He is international but is in US for high school.
@EtherealCloud - that’s great! Congratulations to you and your DS!!!
Congrats!! Do you mind answering a couple of questions? I am considering asking to be considered for ‘25. If you do accept the spot, do you know if it’s a binding contract? Or can you still apply to other schools during the gap year? Thanks in advance :))
Hey guys, I’ve been following this thread since a couple days now. I also got on the WL at UChicago, however, I’m a little bit concerned about the LOCI you all are talking about. I was just asked to submit whether or not I’d like to take the spot.
Maybe that’s a stupid question but why do you submit an extra LOCI? Is it required or recommended or something like that? I’m an international applicant btw. Thanks!
Hey, international student here too. The LOCI is recommended; it basically demonstrates that you really really want to attend the university. In the standard LOCI letter, you first update the admission team on new accomplishments, activities, etc since you first submitted the application. Then, you’re supposed to explain why UChicago remains your first choice. If nothing has changed since December and thus have nothing new to tell the admission officers, some councilors recommend not sending a LOCI.
That’s really helpful - thank you so much @cmurin0 !!!
Where are you from? And you’re also waitlisted?
I got off the waitlist 2 weeks ago! I am an international student and I sent my LOCI on early April
