@Bloggy2 - congratulations! Great job!!!
@Maren1234 Happy to help! I’m from the UK, and yes, still on the waitlist.
@milhojas I found out on April 1st
@randomkid1 I received an email asking if I can call and then I got the good news via phone call!
@waitlistedparent thank you!
to those who got accepted after being waitlisted - how long after sending your LOCI were you offered admission?
When do you guys think UChicago will stop pulling kids off the waitlist? Also do you think they’ll use the Z-List this year (taking kids into c/o 2025) as a lot of admitted students might already be deferring due to COVID-19
they are using the z-list this year - a few waitlisted people already have been offered admission for the class of 2025
Hi, so I found out too late that there was an optional video profile thing on UChicago’s app. Should I still try it out now, or should I just not do anything and wait for their decision?
I would probably not send the video at this point, but I’m curious what others think. Does anyone know when we can expect to hear back?
@sariseo A video is usually meant for artists and performers, and if you are one, I feel it is too late.
They’re referring to the optional video aka UChicago’s version of the interview.
Hey, I was wondering if you guys think financial aid has anything to do with the waitlist. So far I’ve sent 2 letters and gotten responses but no offer and there are others that get in without any letter or contact at all but that have no financial aid. And I’ve been noticing that no aid seems to be a recurring factor in taking people off the waitlist. I’m not sure if this is fact or anything and it’s not like I expect to get in just cause I sent letters, but it seems really strange how many people are getting in with no aid without even expressing interest.
Hi @acceptando, I’m really far from knowing heaps about the selection process so I can only speak for myself, but I haven’t applied for financial aid, I’d say I have a sort of interesting profile and my test scores were decent, however, not amazing and I didn’t get an offer either. I’m not saying it is not a factor - maybe it actually is, but it doesn’t seem like anyone has received any offers in this past week (regardless of their financial aid situation) so I suppose the only thing left to do is relax and see if you’re lucky. Good luck!!
@24intstudent My daughter signed up for waitlist the day she found out she was WL during regular admission (sorry these weeks have been a blur). Then on March 31 she sent her admissions officer a fun TikTok video she made about being waitlisted and received a follow up email the same day and then a second email on April 4 asking if she’d be available for a phone call. She got a call that night offering her a spot!
If admission to the University of Chicago can be influenced by “a fun TikTok video”, then that is truly pathetic. I’ll continue to delude myself into thinking that admission is based on academic merit.
@comomx3 - great to hear on your D20! Congratulations!!!
@medicated - I think it’s about “making of a freshman class” as @Cue7 states in another UChicago thread. The Olympic athlete who will be representing her country from Africa at the next Olympics and other interesting freshmen from Dean Nondorf’s address to the admitted students I’m sure make for a more Interesting class for UChicago class of 2024?
Every top US university has more candidates with perfect or near perfect academic qualifications than the uni has openings. You have to know by now that admissions is based partly on academics but also partly on other things, one of which is how well the uni thinks you’ll fit and contribute. If a TikTok video demonstrates the applicant would fit well and has creativity, it’s reasonable that an AO would find that a plus for the application.
There were likely many more TikTok videos that didn’t result in an offer.
I know nothing of TikTok videos, but I do know that an awfully lot can be accomplished in a small space, “a great reckoning in a little room” to use a phrase from a prior thread. A sonnet can say more than a treatise - or not.
