Ok, I prepared pretty well for the SAT. Even took a Princeton Review course. I thought at the time that was the best way to go about it, bgut I'm hearing now that using Xiggi's method with the college board book is not only a mlot cheaper, but more effective as well. The Princeton review methods were very well thought out, and I applied the methods, but I didn't do all the practice problems they suggested since I was already so busy with school. On top of that, my instructor couldnt keep everyone quiet. I learned a fair amount, but not a great deal. I ended up getting 50 points higher than on my PSAT (and thanks to their sketchy grading, the 200 points higher than my first diagnostic with them so that I dont get nay money back).

Is it possible for me to improve 70 points even though I've already taken a review course. My scores are:

Math-630
Verbal-660 (10 low than my PSAT, this is the one I feel I can improve)
Writing-740 (10 on the essay. I got a 5 on the AP english lang test though, so I could see improving this score too possibly)

Also I was wonder: Is the writing score being viewed as anything more than a SAT II score? Most the schools I've talked to say they still use a 1600 polint scale. On that scale, I'm only at 1290. Which score will they look at, the 1290 or the 2030?

If you take the time to work with the Blue book of "real SAT's", you should be able to improve your score. It really depends on the time and effort you put in.

I took a PR class. Thought the class was pretty good, but the results were disheartening. I received a 1930 on my first diag, but by the time the March SAT rolled around I only received a 1990 on the actual thing! I was really disappointed and looking to take the free refresher course since I did not reach the 200 point guarantee. Before I knew it was time for the May SAT (I had signed up for both tests at the same time). I didn't prep at all for it since it was the day after 2 AP exams. During the test I felt very good (finishing the sections early, understanding the passages) and was delighted to find out two weeks later that I received a 2180!

I still cannot make any sense out of my scores:

1st diag: CR:610 M:660 W:660 -> 1930
A lot of prep
March: CR:630 M:710 W:650 -> 1990
No Prep
May: CR:680 M:800 W:700 -> 2180

I think the change in your scores could have been from a simple fact. After all of that prep, a major factor in how well you do is still how you feel about the test on test day. I had thought I was a guaranteed 800 on Math, and no more than 720 on reading. But when the test day came, the reading passages came really easily, much more easily than ever before. The Math sections, on the other hand, threw me off guard a bit.
I ended up with 770s in both sections.
