My DD got her PSAT score back without an asterisk–208, 98th percentile. We live in New York State. To those with experience and knowledge, how likely do you think it is that she will receive a National Merit Scholarship in September?
Thanks

I think that the Semifinalist cutoff score in NY is around 218. Your D probably won’t make NMSF, but she will almost certainly be Commended.
Thank you albert69, yes, I think you are right. I asked her when she came home from school about the cutoff score, and she said the top .5%–half of one percent!–of JR PSAT takers achieve NMS. Our rural HS ranks students and she is #1, with #2 way behind, so she is virtually certain to be Valedictorian. But more importantly she is a true good heart, respectful, generous, and kind. Her big sister was Saludatorian in 2013, but with all three of my girls–all adopted from China–character is what counts. Little sister still attends Chinese school on Saturdays, but the older two have graduated–starting with pre-K, that’s 14 years of Chinese language learning!.
