2080 SAT score for a non-native speaker?

Hi guys :)

I'm a junior and I am French Canadian. I just received my first SAT scores: M 740, W 700, CR 640. I am aware these are very low scores for Yale. I already studied a lot, but I think I can improve my score up to 2200 by the time I apply (I however doubt it'll go any higher). In Quebec, the ''R-Score'' system is used to rank students for university, and my score qualifies for a 99 percentile.

What do you think would be considered a great score in my case, considering English is not my native language and I don't use it at home/school? Will my R-Score help me?

Thanks a lot :)

What do you mean by not your "everyday" language? You don't use it at school? If so, then I believe it does tip things in your favour a little. If you do speak it at school, then it wouldn't make much difference ( English is my third language/ I don't speak it at home and I managed a 2220 - not that impressive, but "enough" for Yale & Co.).

If you can get it up to 2200 or over by the time you apply you should be perfectly fine and wouldn't have to rely on 'extraneous' advantages to put your score into perspective. Such a total would speak for itself.

Good Luck! :)

EDIT: Just so you know, 2080 really isn't low, you can definitely boost it, but it's still a solid score!

Thank you!

Sorry for the unclear phrasing, I meant I never use English except during my English class (3 hours a week). I've always been educated in French.

Congrats for the 2220 BTW :)
