You have similar stats as my son and my impression is that for the state schools, your state residency is important (easier in-state) and we see that URM weighs a lot more with state schools. So the chances at state schools are probably pretty good even for out of state. For private schools, URM and state of residency really doesn’t mean much unless you are first to college/low income/etc. overcoming some financial or educational barriers. Obviously, Harvard and Stanford are pure lottery --no one can chance those except to say they are very slim. Your GPA is an unusual number–are you foreign applicant? Curious…why these schools? any ideas about majors? are you seeking financial aid? You don’t have any true safeties except, perhaps, UNC so perhaps–you can get the same education from VaTech or William and Mary if you are premed VA resident…If you are a NC resident, why not Duke? If you are a NC resident, you will have a good chance at Duke with these stats–they save a percent of places for residents.

Thanks for your reply. I am from NC but living overseas since 2004 . IB scores on a 7 point scale. 6.5 out of a possible 7.5

Duke I have not seriously considered. hummm?

Can you comment on other Ivy schools, Would my profile get attention at any of these?

Your scores are mediocre for Stanford and Harvard. There are tons of American Hispanics applying that have great SATs & GPAs. Now if your URM status were Afr-American, you would have much higher chances.

Check out some of the threads on the Hispanic Students subforum (under College Admissions).

For Florida State, it really depends more on grades and strength of schedule. If your grades match your scores I’d say if you applied early you might win a nice scholarship and entry to honors.
