2180 on Practice Test?

I just took my first practice test on the collegeboard website, the free one they offer. Here is my score:

Reading
690
Writing
730 (MC: 68, Essay: 12*)
Math
760

This adds up for a total of 2180. I know the essay grading system isn't the best, but I have no other means of having it graded (unless one of you would be kind enough to offer your opinion on my other thread, http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-act-tests-test-preparation/1534890-can-somebody-please-grade-my-essay.html).

I wanted to know if its plausible for me to get a 2400 on the January test. Again, this practice test was without any preparation, and I have just ordered the BB, Gruber's book, the online CB course, the Direct Hits books, and the Black Book. I plan on doing all the practice tests I will have access to (1 a week), and learning all 3400 words/roots in Grubers book as well as the Direct Hits.

No responses? Please help me out.

Of course it’s possible. That’s not a bad baseline score and if you study enough, there’s a good chance that you can improve it. The fact that your CR is the lowest will make that hard, though. I think that’s the section that people have the hardest time improving.

All those books are useful. Another one that was helpful was Tutor Ted’s SAT.
It provides detailed solutions to all the questions in the Blue Book 2nd edition.
It also provides vocabulary lists based on each test in the book.
If you are able to solve every question in the Blue Book then you will be fine.
My daughter used Tutor Ted to understand the solutions to the questions she would get wrong.

guess i am lost already…kind of a newbie:how can I also begin to take SAT I tests?

Get a prep book and do more timed full practice tests. When you reach a plateau or your target score, you may register for the real test.
