On the June SAT, I got a 2240.
M:730

Essay:10

I'm starting my senior year in August, and I was wondering if I should leave my maths score where it is and try and do well on the Subject Tests, or if I should retake the SAT. I want to go to one of the top Engineering Colleges (Caltech, Harvey Mudd, Stanford, MIT). What're your opinions?

If I were you, I would just try to retake the October test again. Math is usually the most easily improved for most people. You do have a summer to study and it seems like your other sections are fine. 2240 is a really good score, but it really depends on your GPA and other things. However, if this was your first SAT, you should just take it again. Sometimes it really depends on how lucky you are.

That’s perfectly fine for top engineering schools. It won’t be a deal-breaker. You should take the SAT again, though — if you have the money — since it’s fun to see how well you can do if you try even harder. I found my results were to my satisfaction.

I’d try to break 750 in Math, but yeah, you need a rockin Math 2 and AP Calculus BC score, too, to maximize your chances.

Thanks a bunch guys. I’ll retake the test since that seems to be the consensus.

You’re math needs to be much higher. Ignore everything else and focus on math till you can score 800 consistently.

I agree with the rest of the people on this thread. Your composite is excellent, really, but your “low” math score is going to pose a problem… I’m pretty sure it’s below the 25th percentile at MIT. You’re going to be competing with kids who have 800 M and 800 Math II. Test scores aren’t everything, but you need to give yourself the best shot possible. Retake it.
