Hi I am currently a high school sophomore. I have taken 3 AP exams so far in 9th Grade.
AP Human Geography (5)
AP Spanish Language (5)
AP Psychology (5)

I am currently taking AP World History and AP Computer Science A, and self-studying for AP Biology and AP European History. Well h's the thing. The record amount of my AP's taken at my school is 23!!!! By a russian girl lol. Anyway she got into Harvard!!! So I am attemptingto beat this record to get into UPenn, Harvard is my second choice. Anyway I feel kind of like this is impossiblesince I'll still have 16 to go for my Junior and Senior year. Any recomendations? Also if you have already gotten in could you do me a favor? +D? Tellme the amount of AP's you took?

*** I know AP's aren't everything; I am simply interested in this topic right now*

I am currently taking 8 APs my senior year. In addition to my
Seven in junior year, I’ve taken 15. 16 isn’t that hard if you think about it. Just focus, focus, drink a monster, and focus lol

i agree with type a kid… sure it’ll be awesome if you break the 23 ap tests but if you sacrifice your ecs in that goal you wont get in anywhere beyond your flagship state school.

Ivy League will check to see if you actually liked your classes. If you take AP Art History and do nothing else outside school of art they’ll say “BS, this kid is just doing this to impress us.” Are your serious to take 23 AP classes that you might boring and do bad on them?
I’m going to take 20 AP classes by senior year (depending on my dual enrollment), but their going to be ones that I actually like, not to impress colleges.

^Poster immediately above me is so, so wrong. I disagree with the philosophy of the OP (“OMG AP CLASSES MOAR MOAR MOAR,” I believe would do it justice), but you certainly never get looked down upon for, heavens, experimenting with your schedule and taking classes outside of your comfort zone. The one instance I can think of where they might (possibly) is if you’re into physics and your school offers non-AP quantum mechanics, and you fail to ever take it because you’re taking AP Art History only for the AP sticker. Even then I don’t think it would be a certain thing, since they have no way of proving you’re not genuinely interested in having a little cultural background in art before you move on to major in physics in college.

Harvard admission officer told our group that they do not look favorably at people self studying for APs just to increase the number of exams taken. He said - sitting for an exam can’t be your EC…

Huh, the title of your thread does nothing to convince me you don’t think APs are everything. My school doesn’t offer any APs for freshmen, and I know someone at a rigorous charter school who doesn’t take APs or Honors courses because everyone is held to the same standard. I’m currently a sophmore and in 1 AP (I think the only one offered unless I want to take AP Environmental Sci or something :D). I’m trying not to stress over #s, just enjoying myself and then applying wherever I want.

Wrong. I took AP Art History sophomore year and really enjoyed it, even though I’ve never done anything art-related in all of HS. It’s not a crime to take a class in something you have no experience in.

Hey I’m glad I can offer you my advice now lol

Hmm… I will have about 7-10 AP classes when I’m done? Can’t really count right now.
If you really enjoy AP classes then go for it. If it’s easy for you then go ahead. The thing is, most people (not everyone) typically excel in a subject more than another.

For example, I would like to take Art history because I’m into music and stuff (art is close enough haha) and history. Don’t even try to get me to take both AP physics class.

I’m not sure how many AP classes are offered, but some of them have to do with languages that in order to beat that record you would need to know.

Also, AP music theory requires some kind of musical background. Just saying ;)

But if you have other strengths outside of school try to play towards it.
