Last fall, I took the SAT for the first time and scored a 2320: 800CR&M, 720W. Initially I thought I'd take those scores and be done (no more early Saturdays!), but seeing my older friends rushing through the college admissions process has led me to reconsider. I'm fairly certain I could get my writing score above 750, possibly to an 800; last time I didn't manage my time well at all and only wrote two paragraphs for the essay section, but answered perfectly on the MC.

So -- would taking it a second time make me look score-finicky, or appropriately conscientious? How much could a higher writing score help me?

@Remi56783 – I wouldn’t be devoting any more time to this than those 4ish hours on a Saturday morning. It’s not so much a question of test prep as it is budgeting my time on the essay section of the test, so ECs & my social life wouldn’t suffer.

@birdhumming Do whatever you want but at this point, it is mostly luck and you already got 800 on both math and cr which are the two most important section of the test from the point of view of most colleges.

@thehummingbird also, i think yes, you could retake it and get an 800 for the writing to get a perfect SAT score. They say that writing is the easiest to improve upon so im sure you could do it!

Why bother?..I posed the same question to many people, as my daughter has the same exact scores.
She has decided to not take it again. Some colleges do not even care about the writing section. My daughter felt taking the SAT and her SAT II tests once and doing well shows much better than people that take it multiple times to achieve a “super score.” You are on your way, GOOD LUCK!

No, Don’t bother taking it again. You scored really well, at 2320,you only missed 1 or 2 questions. In addition, top schools and ivies don’t even consider the writing score. They only take into account the Math and Reading. Also, fyi, in looking at your GPA, they only factor in your grades for Math, English, Sciences and don’t really care that you got an A+ in Ceramics or Speech. You may want to try to score 5’s on your AP’s, because this will get you credit for those courses and you can opt out of some courses in college. Also, top schools require SAT II’s in Math and Science, so you can try to study for those instead of retaking the SAT. Good Luck.
