After my first official time taking the SAT (took it in 7th grade but that doesn't count for college), I got the following score:

M: 800
CR: 800
W: 710

I typically do better on the writing (750-770) and I know most colleges say that they only look at the highest score from each section and I was wondering whether it made sense to retake it as it would only be my 2nd time and if so, when I should take it?

Thanks,
Tony

Yeah, why not? I don’t know if you’re doing SAT IIs also but there’s no harm in doing it twice. The thing is, you’re not guaranteed of repeating the 800s but if you’re only worried about superscoring then go for it. You can definitely improve your writing score, you just have to decide if studying again and going through the whole process again is worth the 50 or so points (or more!). And if you are doing it, I would recommend May or June (May is late registration by now, thanks for nothing College Board), but I wouldn’t put if off until October. I don’t know about you but I want to get this stupid test out of the way as soon as possible.

Good luck, you will be fine whatever you decide. Nice job on the scores.
