24 Credit Program at a Community College

I'm thinking about going to the CC here and doing a 24 credit program to get a New York State High School Equivalency Diploma. It's sort of like a GED, but to get it, you just need to successfully complete 24 specified credits at a college. The credits are as follows:

Creative Writing

Mathematics - 6 Credits

Social Science - 3 Credits

Humanities - 3 Credits

For each of these, there are a variety of courses to choose from, and those are listed under each of the above categories.

Has anyone ever done anything like this? It would get me out of high school and into college a year early, and that's good, so...I'm thinking about doing it.

Any input is welcome.

Why would you want to skip out on a year of High School? I think you may be counted as a transfer applicant when applying to other schools also though I'm not 100% sure.

wacs is right. If speed is your only concern then maybe proceed. However, w/tons of CC credits most schools will see you as a transfer and not as a freshman (and that may severely decrease admissions chances depending on the school). Also, you need to talk to your target colleges to see what will carryover. They aren't compelled to take all your credits.

Why would I want to skip over a year of HS? Well, I hate it. It's a complete waste of my time, way too strict with stupid policies that make no sense, there's almost no choice in classes, and I really need a new environment.

As to the transfer issue...The CC that I would be going to has lots of transfer agreements with schools all over the state including a bunch of schools that I'm looking at and I would be qualified for...So that's not an issue. The only two schools that I'm looking at that might be a problem are Temple and Howard since they're out of state.

Oh, and one more question:

Is the NYSHSED the same as the GED just without taking the test?
