Wow! All this commentary on the relative easiness of the PSAT has got me a bit bewildered. I've been under the impression that the SAT is so much easier than the PSAT. I ended up getting a 2380 when I took the SAT last spring, and yet I didn't even qualify as a semifinalist on the PSAT--I got a 204. Perhaps I misbubbled or something lame like that.

rejoyce, my friend shares similar sentiments. I the psats TEND to be easier, but so many factors are involved so....

I heard that this one girl at my school got a 240 as a junior last year.

the reason people tend to do better on the SATs is that they have an entire year of school (almost) between the PSAT and the SAT...you learn more math concepts, more vocabulary, etc..therefore, your score is going to be higher. But if juniors take a blue book test, I guarantee their PSAT will be higher

My bro got a "perfect" score...so I guess that was a 240, but I don't know, because he said he missed two questions.

So I basically have the highest expectations possible.

Oh, and he got like seven 5s and one 4...

:-(

A member on this board by the name of Pyroclastic received a 240 on the PSAT as well as a 2400 on the March 2005 SAT - in ONE SITTING (it was the first time the "NEW" SAT was given).

It's no surprise why he's at Princeton now

Oh he also got about 5 800s on SATII's and 5s on ALL APs.

I got 205 on PSATs my freshman year, and was crazy enough to take the SATs at the end of that same year, got a 2260! I don't know how, just luck probably. I seriously don't know. Got an 8 on the essay, yet I got a 780 on writing. 780 on math, and 700 on reading. Then, I got a 219 in my sophomore year PSAT. So...I don't know how I went from a 2260 before the summer to a 219 PSAT after. Weird. Wow..lol last post was in year 2006..I just googled this up..so.yeah.ok.

concerning the teacher who got a 240

check this out CC's hero

wait lol he got a 240? wow what a gifted man. genius. hmm anyone have any tips on what I can do this summer to get at least a 230 on PSATs next year as a Junior so I can 1)try to become a National Merit Finalist and 2)show off to my peers (jk jk). Any superb books I can buy? Any helpful websites? I'm not planning to take any classes..cus I can get an 80 on math, and hopefully a 75-80 on writing. It's just the reading that's killing me. any suggestions? tips? any books that could help my reading/vocab? Thanks to all!

I got myself a solid 178 on the PSATs in the Fall as a sophomore which was much better than almost anybody I talked to. I then got an 1890 on this past 2008 May test with absolutely no prep in between.

Stanford, all I can say is DEFINITELY get the CB Blue Book (extremely helpful with the 8-10 practice tests, however many they give you) and then check out this website for some CR help... SparkNotes: Sentence Completions

Ok thanks so much guys!! Although I was hoping some guy with a 240 or a 2400 or even a 2300+ would come and give me some tips.

:( You make me feel so inferior. Haha it's okay though, I understand where you are coming from. I can vouch for the SparkNotes though only because I took the May SATs cold, got a 580 CR and then I read over the SparkNotes link, took a practice test and got a 690-700 (range of 650-740). And then also I feel I did very well on the June CR, I'm hoping for at least a 700 and I felt very confident using those tactics explained in the SparkNotes link.

nice nice nice

Wow, I feel left out. Its like I am the only person who got a better score on their first SAT than on their junior PSAT. I wonder why.

randomness....

i dunno i did over 100 points better on the january sat than my psat with no studying in between

Stanford, just go through the practice tests in the Blue Book...after you take each test, analyze each question and try to figure out why you got it right or wrong. Eventually, you'll start to pick up on patterns and such that the SAT follows.

IMO, the SAT/PSAT correlate pretty well--I personally had a pretty similar score breakdown (233 and 2340).

I thought the PSAT was harder. I had a 219 PSAT and 2260 and 2280 SAT (2330 superscored), with no prep in between...

dude fhg are you serious? Cus i got a 219 and a 2260 as well...we got the same exact scores??

the valedictorian of my school got a 240
